A Reflection On The Changing Seasons

I love the fall; it’s one of my favorite seasons. The temperature starts to drop, rainy days are few and far between, and life is good. I consider myself an optimist; I like to see the best in people and the things around me. The world I’m in is comfortable, and it's stable. But how long can it really last?

There’s a saying that goes “nothing gold can stay.” This saying pertains to many factors of life. In the pursuit of all that shines, how bright is the light that guides us to where we want to be?

As a freshman in college, I’ve had to make many choices that have pushed me both closer to and further from what I want, but they’ve made me who I am today. But it’s only today, and tomorrow is a new day. A change is going to come; are you ready for it?

Change is an incredible thing; it can shift your life in an endless amount of ways. With change comes pain, sacrifice, happiness, and clarity. People you once talked to will fade away and form lives of their own. Your bank account will rise and then fall. Your car will rust and your hair will grow and fall out, but is it a bad thing?

As we grow, we learn how to cherish and we learn what to expect. Change happens every day, every minute, and every second. It’s just being able to acknowledge it that’s the problem. That’s the beauty about life, though, it’s the journey we face as we get to where we want to be. Sooner or later, you’ll start to realize that it’s okay to lose things. It’s okay to lose people.

You just need to hold them close while they’re around. It shouldn’t stop you from living. While nothing gold can truly stay, you do know there are other colors out there, right?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
