The Season of Thanks

The Season of Thanks
The New York Times

Thanksgiving is much like Christmas as far as the true meaning being lost as time goes on. It is seen as just a holiday for people to eat and be off work. Let's analyze the meaning of thanksgiving:

Thanks; noun. an expression of gratitude

Giving; verb. to present of deliver voluntarily

It literally means to count blessings. It means say thank you to those who help you. Say thank you to people because it is not a hard thing to do. Everyone has something to be thankful for. Some people have more than others but everyone has something or someone that they can give thanks to.

Thanksgiving is more important now than ever. As we look at the corrupted, hateful society that we live in, we need to say thank you to each other. A simple "thank you" can slowly help the country one by one. We all need to be more thankful towards each other instead of judgmental.

Here are some things that I am personally thankful for this Thanksgiving:

My family. I am surrounded by family, both biological and not. My parents. My grandma. My aunts. My uncles. My cousins. I am so thankful for all of them. My biological family is huge but they are so much them. I love being around them.

My friends. I do not have as many as I used to because I believe in quality over quantity when it comes to friends. I do not have a lot of friends but the ones I do have are some of the best in the world. They are top-notch people who inspire and motivate me and make me better. They are some of the most loyal people to ever walk the earth.

My animals. My life without my animals would suck. I am happier when I am around them. I am much more patient and tolerant. They can always cheer me up no matter what. Whenever anything bad happens, the first thing I do is go to my animals because I know that they know how I feel.

Music. Music is a light that glows and lights up the darkness of the world. There is always that one song, one album, one band that can cheer me up depending on the mood I am in. I am a better person because of the music that I love so much and that has kept me going on the bad days.

My favorite TV show. Yes, I know the amount of happiness I get out of NCIS is ridiculous. After 13 seasons, its like I am a part of the show, a part of that amazing family dynamic that is shown so clearly in the show. Gibbs as that father figure to Dinozzo, McGee, Abby and Kate then Ziva then Bishop. The jokes between the characters and just the way they all work as a team is enough to put a smile on my face.

The littlest things. A tv show, a song, a favorite sweater. They are things to be thankful for. I am certainly thankful for all those things and all the amazing people in my life that never fail to make me smile and who never leave me to face anything alone. I know I have much more to be thankful for than the average person, but I honestly do believe we all have something to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless!
