Many people have heard of this movie but not everyone has watched it. It was one of the first movies popularized for being so terrible. This movie is of course, "The Room" by director and lead actor Tommy Wiseau. This movie has become a cult classic due to its infamous status as one of the worst movies ever made. Having just watched the movie again and having it fresh in my mind, I figured I would advertise the movie as it was the fourth time I have seen it. Watching this movie falls into the euphemism of watching a train crash, you just can't help but watch the disaster and get some kind of sick and twisted enjoyment out of it. The Room is a disaster, but because of the magnitude of the disaster, it will always be remembered.
I refuse to spoil the movie for anyone because everyone should watch it. Invite a bunch of friends over and relish in the movie's awfulness. I will, however, help to explain just how awfully wonderful this movie is. First off, the acting. The acting is out of this world in how bad it is. The characters are unbelievable and the lead actor can barely speak english. The lead actor is the director and person who funded The Room, being Tommy Wiseau. His accent is some weird mix of a few European nations and they clearly had to redo his lines and lip sync them over the footage. The best part of this is that the lip sync is abysmal. These two aspects of the audio make for some sort of comedy throughout the entire film as Wiseau never looks like he is saying what he is saying, and you cannot even understand what he is saying.
The story of "The Room" is rather basic as it boils down to the main character's girlfriend cheating on him with his best friend. However, it adds nothing clever to the story and instead adds other aspects to the characters that do not actually make them more interesting or likeable. For example, The girlfriend's mother has cancer. This never gets brought up except for in passing, the girlfriend responds by saying its fine. Turns out it is as the mother never shows any signs of dying and it does not add to the story. The essentially adopted son of the main character turns out to have some sort of business in drugs. He almost gets killed because of it, but the movie never brings this aspect up again. The scene just sort of happens and adds nothing interesting to the story or characters.
I already feel bad bringing up these two aspects in the movie because my friends and I would burst out laughing at these moments. Their unimportance and arbitrariness are so absurd that the only reaction is to laugh. I highly recommend this movie, everyone over eighteen years old should watch this movie. There is cursing, nudity and sex in the movie which warrants its R rating, but only adds to the catastrophe that this movie is. This is probably one of my most watched films solely because I have shown it to so many people and hopefully this article will show it to more people.
