The Risk Of The Adventure

Risk taking by definition, defies logic.

Imagine looking out the window 13,000 feet high. Strapped to a person you just met minute’s prior. Your life in his hands. Terrified? Not me, not a worry goes through my head until the door opens and for a split second I think about turning back but we begin to slide over towards the door looking out over the edge.

Then without warning he yells, “GO”!

We're free falling through the air at 50 miles per hour. The wind throwing our body’s back, I loved the rush so much I completely forgot about the parachute. He pulls the cord and my whole body gets yanked upwards and suddenly were just drifting in the air miles high, taking in the beautiful site.

This is the thrill of risking your life for an adventure. My bucket list might be a bit more extreme then others but they all have the same general concept; the need to live while we can. Some do risky things so when they look back on their life they can say they lived it to the fullest. Some people do it because they want to discover something and others are simply genuine risk takers.

Risk taking by definition, defies logic. Reason can't explain why people do unpredictable things. Like betting on blackjack or jumping out of planes for little or, sometimes, no reward at all. There's the thrill, of course, but those brief moments of ecstasy aren't enough to keep most risk takers coming back for more which they do, again and again, like addicts.

It gives people a rush, this thrill some how makes you feel invincible. Some strive for the thrill of the adventure while others don' understand it. Taking risks are part of life. But your risk doest have to be jumping out of a plane, it could be facing your fear or making a hard decision.

“It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves.”

— Andre Gide

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
