American Women Deserve The Rights Over Their Own Bodies

When will the women get to decide what they want to do to their bodies and when will the men stop this dictatorship rule over a woman's reproductive system.

American Women Deserve The Rights Over Their Own Bodies

Abortion rights in America have been scrutinized by many in the current regime. Many people that the President has employed under him would like to overturn Roe v. Wade.

This was a court case that had taken control of the country in the 1970s. During that time and even now abortion also including women's rights to choose, is under fire from Republicans in Washington as well as radical religious groups. Having an abortion was only considered legal during the '70s if the mother's life was endangered. If not the mother would be legally bound to carry a child she may have not been able to afford or had wanted because of the limit of access to birth control.

This had disastrous consequences, and many women had to result in unsafe ways of terminating their pregnancy and thus had led to higher mortality rates in young women and adults.

Many women are considered criminals in other countries where religion is at the core of their government's belief system.
If a woman gets an abortion in Buenos Aires, Argentina they will be sent to prison or killed because they had obtained an abortion illegally. These women do not have the freedom of choice as we Americans do.

This can become an exponential problem in our country and is already happening in others.

In Argentina's capital, women had gathered in red cloaks and white bonnets to protest the patriarchal government that criminalizes abortion. The women were inspired by the handmaid's tale a book about a society in which women have no rights and are forced to bear children.

Last week a 15-year-old girl from Indonesia who was raped by her brother had obtained an illegal abortion and was sentenced to six months in prison. She had been continually assaulted by her brother for eight years and because she terminated her pregnancy, she had also been imprisoned. This young girl had no choice but to terminate the pregnancy because incestual relationships whether forced or not can lead to birth defects and infant mortality. She had taken it upon herself to obtain the abortion knowing the risks but that was better than having to carry her brothers' child for another four months.

Not one of these women had any right to be persecuted for their actions.

Abortion isn't the macabre procedure it once was. With trained professionals, it is a safe alternative for women choosing not to carry a baby full term. However, in other countries, women are constantly abused and are treated as second class citizens and are forced into a pregnancy they didn't want.

Though this could have been prevented by having clinics that distribute methods of birth control and also teach women about their health governments like in Argentina and Indonesia control what is being said and seen. Many women in America don't realize how lucky they are to have the right to choose but in a few short months and years, we could become like Argentina or Indonesia.

A woman having the right to choose what to do with her body shouldn't have to be debated by men in Washington because they aren't women.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
