The Rev

An americana band that's bringing funky country to the forefront.

The Rev

The Rev is a band located in the Phoenix area that is at the introductory stage of its existence. The revival is the full-meaning of their title as the mission is to recreate and bring a style of music writing and music that was lost along the way during the 1970s. Eric Meyer is the person who started this band with hopes of bringing a new twist to country music that'll get the attention of a younger audience. The Rev is gaining popularity as they just released a new EP called, "Mashed Potatoes." The story is to find music that people can hopefully listen to on the beach and relax instead of intense lyrics and tone. The songs created are made with a fun intention behind them and a laid-back vibe that you'd find if you were on the beach.

Eric Meyer lived in Hawaii for a portion of his life and was able to adapt to their way of living. Meyers includes the feelings and emotions through his music that reminds him of his time as a beach bum. Luckily the Rev has gotten recognition from Alice Cooper. The Arizona native is a supporter of this new wave of music as they are attempting to do something that not many country singers are doing which is to make old country music relevant in a world full of rap and hip-hop. The authenticity of the music is something that's lost with the new production of music and how everything is made by sampling. The guitars and drums are real sounds captured in the studio located in Chandler. With the release of a new album in the foreseeable future, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rev gain popularity in the valley and start a mini-tour where they will perform at local venues in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area.

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
