Christmas time, for most, is joyful and heartwarming. However, it's easy to dread the month of December, and here's why.
1. Shopping stress
Christmas usually means buying gifts for people that you know very little about, and there is always the decision on who to buy gifts for. If somebody gets you something and you did not get them anything, you have an awkward situation on your hands and vice versa. You also have to decide how much to spend on people because if somebody goes all out for you, you cannot give them a five dollar gift card.
2. Christmas music
I just cannot stand it. It is everywhere, and there is no escaping.
3. Early celebration and decoration
Christmas is one day a year. That day is at the end of December. There is no need to start celebrating in October. Also, it is one thing to leave your Christmas lights up after December, but do not put them up before Thanksgiving.
4. Santa is creepy
Although reindeer are cute, the idea of a fat, magical, old man breaking into people’s houses to give their children gifts or coal after watching them all year is just a bit much.
5. Red and green are ugly
For some reason, I just do not like this color combination.
6. People get rude
Because the holidays cause so much stress for people, they tend to get cranky or sad during this time of year. Aren’t the holidays supposed to be joyful?
7. People are fake
Those who never go to church go on the holidays. Those who never give to charity get curiously generous. Those who never speak to you expect you to get them a gift. I could go on and on.
8. Christmas is not the only holiday
Especially here in the Bible belt, this season tends to be quite non-inclusive for people who do not celebrate Christmas.
9. I am broke
I love giving people gifts, but I can never afford to get everyone everything they deserve.
10. Mostly, I am just a grinch
The holidays stress me out, but they definitely have their highlights. Snow is fun, reindeer are cute, the food is good, and a time of giving is always enjoyable. Enjoy your holiday season!
