With 2017 now in full swing, talk of New Year's resolutions can be heard left and right. People may seem very committed to staying faithful to their promises, but sticking to them is often better said than done. Keeping any of the popular resolutions below might prove to be more of a challenge than you think, so if you do attempt any of them, good luck!
1. Go to the gym every day.
This might seem like a good idea in your head, but inevitably, life will get in the way. You may have a last-minute paper to write instead, plans with friends, or feel a little too lazy to walk the five short minutes to the gym.
2. Cut out sweets.
You may start off eating all the fruits, vegetables and whole grains that you possibly can until your mom sends you a care package in the mail filled with your favorite sweets that you won't be able to let sit there.
3. Take a break from social media.
When social media starts to take over your life, you may try to take a hiatus, and vow to stop checking your phone every 30 seconds. However, avoiding looking at what your Facebook friends are up to or scrolling through the explore page on Instagram may prove to be a challenge.
4. Not procrastinating school work.
Procrastination can be an extremely hard pattern to break. Those that try as a part of their New Year's Resolutions will be very tempted to slip back into old habits half-way through the semester.
5. Save money.
You might make it a resolution to save up from your job, earnings from selling your student football tickets, and holiday money from relatives, but may find yourself spending it all on a day at the mall.
6. Clean/organize your personal spaces.
Over winter break, you might feel the need to clean out your room at home and get rid of things you no longer want or make it a goal to reorganize your dorm room when you get back to school for second semester. But, you probably will never actually get to it because you're too busy catching up with friends at home, and decide you don't really need change after all.
7. Watch less TV and be more productive.
It's difficult to come across a good show on Netflix and fight the urge to watch 10 episodes in one day.
8. Get more sleep.
As a college student, sleep is very important. Struggling to wake up for your 8 am will leave you making a plan to go to sleep earlier. However, between hours of scrolling through Instagram and Facebook, and cramming in a few more episodes of Netflix, you won't actually get to bed until 2 am.
Happy New Year!!!
