I speak for most when I say dieting is probably the hardest thing anyone can do. For me, one day of dieting feels like a whole month of dieting. There are so many temptations that surround me in my daily life.
The truth is, I have been dieting since high school. When I say dieting I mean a week out of the month where I attempt to be healthy. Sometimes I just say what the hell, I'll start tomorrow — then tomorrow becomes and I find myself saying I will start on Monday. Finally, I said to myself i need to cut it out! I decided to fully commit to good eating habits.
If you want to truly be dieting you need to stick with it, here are some tips and habits that help me:
1. Avoiding breaking your diet
Every time you are tempted to eat something that is not a part of your diet plan or unhealthy, just wait 15 minutes before making any moves. The feeling usually passes. If not, just try drinking a glass of water.
2. Keep Hydrated
Water is a very important thing. I try to drink at least a gallon every day, and it helps me keep away from all the bad sugary drinks.
3. Planning Ahead
Write everything down and plan your meals for the day or the week. Meal prepping is easy, and it would definitely save you time during the busy weekdays.
4. Fewer Carbs
If you are a huge pasta lover like me, I suggest that instead of taking an extra cup of pasta, switch it in for some healthy greens — it is delicious and has a lot less calories.
5. Shopping when hungry is wrong!
Don’t go food shopping when you are hungry! As everyone probably already knows, it makes you weak. You will buy unhealthy things and unnecessary things. It is just a big no-no!6. Say no — don't fall into temptation!
Stay away from fast food. When driving home from work, it is always so tempting to just go through the the drive-thru. Just don't do it. Go straight home. We can all agree that home-made food is way better than fast food, and you save money, too!
7. Trade late-night snack for some sleep!
Late-night snacking is always a bad idea. If you are bored, just go to bed! Sleeping does affect your health and you want to make sure you get your seven to nine hours every night!
Dieting is hard, but I have learned if you don't commit to it, you won't see any changes.
Stop thinking about it and just do it!
