People think we have it so easy; people think that all 20-year-olds do is party, sleep till noon and online shop (the online shopping part may or not be true).
I would just like to give some insight on what my life as a 20-year-old is like. I am in my last semester of college and since I am an Education major that means I am student teaching in a Preschool classroom. I go to school from 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., I then come home and work on anything I need to do to get ready for the next day. I then get my lunch ready for the next day, get caught up on all my social medias, talk my mom's ear off about my day and do any little chores that need to get done. I also am working a part time job in retail, I work a couple nights a week and on weekends. There is an online class that follows along with Student Teaching so I also have that to do on weekends.
That is just work and school, on top of that I am trying to keep up with my social life. I am trying to keep up with friends and make sure I am making time to see them too. I also have to keep up with my reality TV shows and at the current moment keep up with everything going on in the Olympics.
When I am down with school in December I have to be an adult, a real adult not just an "I'm in college" kind of adult. So in my free time I am trying to scope out jobs that will hire a 20-year-old who recently graduated from college but has no real work experience or skills. That is time-consuming in its self, so add everything else I have on my plate and it makes a busy lifestyle.
If you haven't given up on my story yet, I would like to add two large cherries on top of my crazy life ice cream sundae. My body has recently decided it doesn't want to digest gluten. I give major props to people who have gone their whole life with cutting out gluten. It is so time-consuming and makes it so much harder to eat any meal. I also have really bad anxiety, so add everything together and my anxiety usually goes through the roof. I know, I sound like a real winner, but this is my life.
I would love for every adult to read this and know that not every 20-year-old is out partying 24/7, some of us work our booties off and are living a very stressful and busy life. I would love to get rid of the stigma that is associated with people my age, but I don't think it will ever go away (if you don't believe me, go follow some of the girls I went to high school with).
Please just know that the reality of a 20-year-old's life is much different than you may think.
