Genius and realistic, but also highly idealistic. Brilliant.
You may have gone on a social media platform within the past few weeks to see political statements such as:
This really should not come as a surprise, as plenty of the opponents of Obama are quick to reply with idea that Obama is the most apologetic president.
Here is the real deal, folks, Obama did not simply go to Hiroshima and Nagasaki to apologize on behalf of the United States for bombing them. No matter what anyone believes on the situation, whether it was the right thing to do or not, OBAMA DID NOT APOLOGIZE FOR THE EVENT.
"Why do we come to this place? To Hiroshima? We come to ponder a terrible force unleashed in the not-so-distant past. We come to mourn the dead, including over 100,000 Japanese men, women, and children. Thousands of Koreans. […] The war grew out of the same base instinct for domination or conquest that had caused conflicts among the simplest tribes, an old pattern amplified by new capabilities and without new constraints."
What our president was simply trying to convey was his moral revolution, in regards to his moral presidency.
To be honest, this visit to Hiroshima did not deal so much with the specific issue of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Instead, our President discussed his idealistic, yet realistic foreign policy goals and ideals. Obama simply reassured the United States/Japan alliance and memorialize the victims of war.
For some strange reason, it seems that people are quick to jump to the conclusion that on his "apology tour," President Barack Obama just has to send more than just his condolences.
The only problem is... this is not true. If you actually listen to his speech or read the transcription of it, there is no place in which he apologizes for anything.
On a side-note, it is extremely important to take the time to understand the fact that Barrack Obama is the first United States president to visit Hiroshima since the 1945 bombings. It took more than 70 years for a president to acknowledge the only uses of atomic bombs at the place in which they were dropped. Our president was brave enough to acknowledge the past and move to a better future for the world, and not just for our country.
The real message here is: do not believe what one headline says, or what you read online. If you want to know what is really happening in this world instead of trusting other people's words, simply do the research yourself and end the perpetuating myth that we can always trust other's words.
