By now I'm sure you're probably very familiar or somewhat familiar with Donald Trump's latest controversy. If, by some chance you're not familiar with the controversy I'm referring to, I don't blame you; I also have a hard time keeping track because it seems like Trump is involved in a new scandal every week. But the controversy I'm talking about is the 2005 recording between Trump and Billy Bush in which Trump is caught on tape bragging about kissing and groping women because, according to him, "when you're a star, they let you do it."
After watching the video, I immediately thought, this is it, he's gone too far, the republican party and all of his supporters are finally going to abandon him. Well, imagine my surprise when this didn't happen. Instead, some members of the Republican congress publicly reprimanded (I use that word loosely) Trump, a few of them even unendorsed him (for a little while) but, as is the case with all of Trump's scandals, no real action was taken.
While I'm sickened by their reactions or lack thereof, I'm not completely shocked. What did shock me, however, is some people's reactions that I read when I logged into my Facebook account. These comments ranged from mildly outrageous where a few individuals said, "it's not that serious, men talk like this all the time." To overly outrageous, one comment, in particular, stood out to me because this individual said that Trump sexually assaulted women "before he was saved." Now I don't know about you, but I have never heard Donald Trump say or even allude to the fact that he is a Christian so I find it very odd that this individual used religion to justify Trump's actions.
But aside from that, this comment sheds light on a larger issue; it shows how far some people will go to get this man elected. Throughout the course of the election, Trump has made several racists remarks, he's discriminated against certain ethnic groups and now a video comes out which shows that he's used his status as "celebrity" to sexually assault women, yet people continue to make excuses for him. Where's the outrage? More importantly, when will enough be enough? How far does Trump have to go before the Republican congress and his supporters admit that he is not qualified to be the next President of the United States.
So, if Trump wins, it won't be because he can "make America great again" he will win because America keeps making excuses for him.
