With the recent Presidential election, there has been an absolute explosion of emotions which has caused for a wide range of opinions to arise. It seems as if everyone and their grandmother has an opinion, which has also caused (to varying degrees) the polarity in political ideologies in this country. Which is not a bad thing to begin with. Opinions and emotions are what drive a person’s actions. In this day of age, in where the public’s political participation has been minimal, then maybe it was time for a widely controversial presidential election to occur. I truly believe that the results of this election will create the fire that will ignite people to become involved in causes they believe in. Which in this case, if an election will fire people up, then lets all burn.
Even so, there is a complete difference between voicing one’s opinion, and being a complete bigot.
You see, everyone might be a bigot and we might not even realize it. Yes! We might be bigots! You might think--whaaaaaa?? I’m not a bigot!
Well, maybe you believe this because of the change of connotation behind the word itself. When someone imagines a person that is bigoted, for some this image usually pops to mind.
When this is the actual definition of a bigot.
Bigot has been widely used by people on the left to point out all that’s wrong with the right. Yet for some reason, it hasn’t been used to point out what’s wrong with SOME of those on the left. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a die-hard libtard, cry-baby, snowflake, so I can’t fully say that I’m 100% unbiased on every single issue of the Democratic Party. Even so, I recognize that some people on the left have said some pretty interesting blanket statements for people on the right. For example, Hilary Clinton said very clearly;
“You could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic -- you name it.”
Now I am not defending the right to be any of those adjectives that are used above. But I am stating that it was completely wrong, and irresponsible, that someone who wishes to be the president of every single citizen in this country to make that kind of statement. Even so, I digress, blanket statements like these have been used by SOME liberals in many ways, and it’s a completely wrong thing to do. Am I stating that there are no racists, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, and islamophobic, members in the right?
No, I am stating that unless every single person that considered themselves a conservative was polled in a way that everyone could fully discern if any of the above was correct, then WE CAN'T categorize ALL conservatives in that sort of grouping. Because that would be something a bigot would do.
The mistake we have been making is assuming without prior knowledge. Which is unfair. We shouldn’t judge a person unless a blanket statement about a particular group of people is made. Which let’s be honest. We know who might hold the throne of blanket statements.
Which is why we can’t excuse SOME of those on the right side of the political spectrum. I am apparently a die-hard libtard, cry-baby snowflake, which to be honest that might be the best thing anyone has ever called me. And for some reason, this is the chosen blanket statement used by SOME conservatives for every liberal millennial. I have seen many instances in where a practical political discussion was taken out of the picture, after insults, name calling, and ridicule were used to further the belief system of another person. We can’t even have a conversation anymore, because any differing opinion could earn someone a wide list of amusing insults. Even so, I can’t help but to not take anyone seriously who uses the word "Libtard" to describe another person. Why? Because an argument, in my opinion, is no longer sound when insults are used. There is no need for insults. Even if they’re hilariously bad. So maybe we as people should fix that. Or not, I mean we’re all technically self-destructive in many ways, so why not add another thing to the list.
Oh wait, I know, because that’s something maybe a bigot would do.
I know that it is practically impossible to comment on every single blanket statements that both liberals and conservatives have ever used. As well to say that I am personally a born again saint, therefore, I am free of all blame. But I believe that taking the step of acknowledgment that we as people are the reason behind the horrendous political divide in this country is a step in the right direction. In order for us as humans to try to understand one another, we need to change. This is so that at least we all try to work in one way or another towards the betterment of this country. Sure we might want to tear each other’s throats from time to time, but at least we would be proud to say that we aren’t bigots. Or not.
