In times of devastation and hardship, people go towards the objects, songs, or words that inspire them to not shallow away in fear. After the attacks of 9/11, our country was in a state of loss and alarm of not knowing where to find hope and what was to come. It was then in 2003 the iconic song “Where is the Love?” by The Black Eyed Peas was produced and it became the torch in the darkness. The song’s messages in response to the 9/11 attacks and other issues on terrorism, war, racism, pollution, violence against the LGBT community, and intolerance between people echoed out to everyone all over the country, having people join to see and act together to make positive change.

This week, the Black Eyed Peas just released an updated version of the song in time before the anniversary of 9/11. With a new beat, different artists singing in the song with the original group, and the original lyrics shifted around, the song brings out a new, inspiring and rejuvenating tone to the classic. The black and white music video that accompany’s the song as well is powerful, having a variety of celebrities shown in the video with images of acts of terror and violence that occurred this year scattered throughout it.

In an interview discussing the song, will.i.am explained why the reboot of the song was a project the group thought was important. "I remember when the attack in Paris happened, people would say 'We need 'Where Is the Love?' again,'" Will.i.am says in the preview video. "And then Belgium happened and then Turkey and then Orlando and then Philando and Alton before him, and then Dallas. Everyone was calling on us like, 'We need that song again.'"

The song itself has always had a powerful message, but the way it is connected to this time period now proves something more to its theme. The obstacles and problems we see and hear about everyday are ones that have kept increasing in magnitude. With the crisis in Syria and the Middle East, terror attacks in Europe, the enduring state of war and poverty in Africa, and the shootings and inequality disputes in the US, our world has been in a constant state of fear. There hasn’t been a day the world has seen where there was no conflict and only peace. That is why the name of the song, and the song is still relevant now more than ever: where is the love?

The new song, released on August 31st, comes out in a time when we remember past events like 9/11 that shook our world, the current events that are affecting our world, and in a time when we need to bring back hope to the world. If you haven’t listened to the song or seen the music video, you should now. It is time to find the love again.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
