Teachers are essential for society. They help educate the future generation to achieve their academic and personal goals. From an educator viewpoint, classes that have a cohesive team of collaborators are more successful in the classroom. I have seen more student engagement and interaction in what is being taught.
1. There is a reduced student to teacher ratio which will create more student to teacher involvement.
2. There is less stress for lesson planning because two teachers are working together on curriculum and lesson planning which creates more time and energy toward the students and meeting their needs.
3. There is a sense of shared responsibility in the room and behavioral management. Two different personalities in the room will increase student understanding and relations with each teacher.
4. There is a sense of accountability with having another adult in the room. They can help the other stay on track, help with distributive students, and help each other when the other feels a little down.
5. There would be an increase in small groups and station learning or centers. Having multiple teachers will allow for more differentiated instruction within the classroom.
6. Many classes or schools that have implemented co-teaching have seen an increase in student success and achievement.
7. Students have been shown to socially interact more appropriately in co-teaching classrooms and respond better direction.
There are many more advantages of co-teaching. It has been shown to be very successful in classrooms. It has been shown to raise student achievement and success and decrease teacher stress and anxieties. It creates a more student-centered environment which is exactly what the students need. When two teachers get along and can work together to help students learn, it creates amazing results.
