You got a chance at love on one hand and the freedom of only having yourself to worry about on the other: what do you do? Well, lets weigh out the benefits and downfalls of both.
When you're single, it is me, myself, and I.
"Hey! You got any plans this weekend?"
"Hell no I don't!"
You have the freedom of only having yourself as a responsibility. This might seem like more of a downfall to others, but to me, responsibility is only on you, and that takes a lot of weight off of those shoulders.
No boy/girl. No problem.
When you don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend there are no "When your boyfriend decides to like another girl's Insta pic and doesn't think you'll find out about it" Tweets to worry about, even when that picture he liked was actually one of his cousins. Nope, no problem here people. I can like whatever pictures I want to.
Dolla Dolla Bills $$$
There are no birthday/Christmas/Valentines/Whatever dumb holidays people decide to come up with gifts to worry about! That pair of pearl earrings you've wanted to buy for a couple months? Go ahead and buy it sweetheart, you've saved up 150$ for yourself. Go ahead, treat yourself.
What's cheating?
"Aw, he cheated on you again? I'm sorry" One thing we never have to worry about hearing, yay!
So, we've gone over the pros of being single, lets take a look at some of the awful things about being single:
"Yeah, hold on one second. I just had something in my eye!"
You might have taken a slight moment at a concert to cry when you realized everyone around you has someone to hold and kiss during that devastatingly slow song except for you. Oh, maybe that's just me.
Look how cute they look.
Yep, that's right. No adorable Instagram pictures that you so desperately want to be able to post one day. Just be patient my child. Good things come to those who wait.
At least I have my pillow!
Those winter months come with a bit of a chill. Who do you have to cuddle up with? A dog? A pillow? It's not that exciting. I know you might be thinking about curling up next to the fire with the person of your dreams. Keep dreaming. But hey, on the bright side at least you don't have to shower!
Adventurin' Han Solo
Unfortunately, if you want to go on a hike, camping, or basically any other intriguing activity that you can think of, you have the choices of family, closest friends, or pets. Don't get me wrong, those are all great! But, if you had someone special by your side it could make for more than just an adventure. You might just fall deeper in love.
Okay, so being single has some rough spots and some soft spots, but being in a relationship, let's take a gander at the other side of the fence!
Date Night!
Lovely food, nice music, and great company. You're completely indulging in one another and enjoying a night out alone. It's always nice to really have a connection with someone, and whether it be dinner, mini golf, or any other stereotypical dates you can think of, its nice to share that connection with one another on a special night out.
Let's talk about sex baby, let's talk about you and me.
Sure, in this day and age people are bumping uglies whether you're in love or not, but when it's done with someone you're in a relationship with it can be meaningful and worth a whole lot more than doing it with someone you just met.
Too-cute-to-comprehend pictures.
When you're single you post a lot of selfies ad pictures of your dogs, but when you have a significant other you can take those "he sweeps me off of my feet" pictures that are just so dang cute!
LOVE
Let's not forget, the best thing about a relationship: falling for one another. Love is said to be what makes the world go 'round. So when you finally find the reason for what makes your world spin, and it may not be your significant other, but if it is, you've found something that not a lot of people ever will.
Alrighty then, we've navigated through the pros and cons of being single and now the pros of being in a relationship , so lets take a look at where being in a relationship can drag you into the fiery pits of relationship hell.
Time to break out that pint of ice cream.
Break ups are not fun. There is a lot of crying, getting back at you's, and piecing yourself back together. What part of that sounds like a good time? All signs point to none.
"Who is that guy you were talking to?"
How about none of your damn business. Oops, but that's the problem. You're in a relationship now. There is no me, myself and I. There is us.
"You got plans this weekend?"
"Yeah, Jamey is taking me to dinner"
"Yes, Doug made plans with his family"
"I think so, I'll probably hangout with Danielle"
Yes, I have plans every weekend. Sorry, hun.
Cheating.
Cheating is awful, and it is certainly a consequence of being in a relationship. If you are willing to be in a relationship you need to be aware of everything hat might come out of it. Good or bad.
As you can see there are a lot of benefits and a lot of consequences from both statuses. To offer any advice, I would say love yourself before loving someone else. And don't feel like you ever need anyone else to rely on. Be confident, smart, and happy, no matter what situation you might be in. If you are single, enjoy your freedom. If you have someone, always appreciate the role they occupy in your life. Just know, wherever life lets you fall, absorb the shock, and dust yourself off, then move on from there.
