This year, my third year at OSU, I decided to take a big step and try off-campus living rather than living in the dorms.
Pros of Off-Campus Living
1. Not sharing a bathroom with 20 other people in your hall
Although I did have a few interesting interactions with other hall mates, nothing beats having a bathroom all to yourself.
2. Having more living space
You're not crammed in a small room with all your stuff and another persons.
3. Saving money on rent
What used to be $6,000-$8,000 just went down to half the price.
4. Not having to purchase an expensive dining plan
No more gross campus food and the freedom to eat anything you want!
5. Getting more privacy
With a bedroom, living room, and kitchen there's always a place to go if you need an escape.
Cons of Off Campus Living
1. Having a longer commute to class
That extra 5 minutes can seem much longer in rain or snow.
2. Not having the convenience of food made for you
Grocery shopping can seem like a drag at times.
3. Having to pay for internet, water, electricity, cable, etc
Keeping track of bills can be annoying.
4. Feeling more isolated from your friends/peers
I miss the convenience of just walking down the hall to talk to someone.
5. Increasing responsibility
Bills, Bills, and more bills.
