College is one of the most exciting experiences of a persons life. Going to school, meeting new people, going to college football games, and having a night out or two is all a big part of the life of a college student. Going to a big school where the town is built around the college can make for some pretty interesting times. While it is sometimes nice to escape reality and live in the bubble of a college town, it is also hard sometimes to live in a city with it's head stuck in the school. Although living in a college town is mostly a good thing, it does come with some negatives as well.

Pro: The town is mostly filled with college students and young people.

Walking into Publix on a Sunday afternoon is pretty much a another journey on to campus or into a fraternity house. You are constantly surrounded by college students wherever you go.

Con: You are shocked whenever you see an actual real adult or even worse, a baby.

It is as if you are living in a false, fantasy world where you manage to block out people with jobs or real lives. It's a nightmare to think about college actually ending and that you will eventually have to contribute to society.

Pro: Going out is always easy and is always an option.

Whether it is a Monday night or a Friday night, there is always something going on. At least one of your friends is ready to go and are trying to convince you that you should also go out. How can you say no?

Con: Going out is always easy and is always an option.

Because it is easy to go out, it can become a problem. While going out is a good time, failing your classes is not. The temptations to go to the bar every night can become an issue and it is important to find a happy medium.

Pro: Most things are within walking distance or are a quick drive away.

It's fun knowing that your friends live just a half mile or a building over and you can easily see them whenever you want. Not to mention, the Pizza Hut is only a block away.

Con: Having to drive more than 10 minutes becomes a chore.

College students sometimes forget how spoiled they are and driving any distance greater than 10 minutes becomes an ordeal.

Pro: You get to live on your own for the first time and there are plenty of close to campus options to choose from.

The possibilities for student housing are endless and you can choose exactly what you want to live in. You can live with your three best friends, close to campus, with a pool, and your dog and you finally don't have parents telling you when to do laundry or the dishes.

Con: Because you are a college student, those apartment complexes will try to screw you out of your money as much as possible.

Because they can. And because you are a liability waiting to happen. You want to have a pet? Pay this $400 pet fee. Want to break a chair? That will be a $100 fine.

Pro: Everything revolves around football season.

People come and go during the fall to watch every football game and attend every tailgate. It's not just something to do, but simply a way of life. The town comes alive and there is school spirit every where you go.

Con: When it isn't football season, people seem lost.

And that is why Happy Hour was invented.

Pro: There is always something to do.

Because there is always a sporting event to attend, a party to be thrown, or friendships to be made, living in a college town is never boring. There is always something to do or something to get involved with.

Con: You will probably never sleep.

There will be many nights where you only get 3 hours of sleep for some reason or another. But hey, you can sleep when you're dead.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
