The "Problems" With This Generation

"I wish I was born in the 50's!" No you do not.

The "Problems" With This Generation
People

So this is going to be a rant. But I have an issue with the people who say they hate this generation and they wish they were born in a different era or a different time period. This is the time to be alive people! Think about it, when else can you talk to someone who is on the other side of the country and it only takes a few seconds. This is the time to be anything, to do anything! The things that we can offer in this generation is absolutely incredible. If you went back in time, great things that we have today wouldn't exist. Things like…

Instagram would most definitely not be a thing.
Yeah, so you being able to post that picture of you and your friend at the local sock shop is for sure not a thing. Getting cute pictures with the squad is more than likely not going to be the best quality, then you have no idea what it looks like because you have to get the film developed.

VACCINATIONS WEREN'T A THING.
This is one that I think is kind of important, you know, just a little bit. Think about it, every decade has a major disease that we have mostly eradicated now. Plus, modern medicine doesn’t allow a doctor to lobotomize a woman for “hysterics” like they could in the past.

Social media wasn't going to update you on anything.
Do you want to know why? The internet wasn’t a thing until like 1990, and then Myspace (yeah, I know it's old) wasn’t a thing until 2003. So guess what! You have to wait to update your story or connect with your friends!

Civil Rights?
Seriously, the past is a really messed up place. At least everyone can agree with that right? Like let’s talk about that for a second, women have kind of always been mistreated, and don’t even get me started on minorities.

Netflix wouldn't exist.
Reruns in general aren’t a thing, every single episode is new. And unless you like shows like "MASH" or "The Andy Griffith" show. "The Bachelor" isn’t going to happen for some time. If you binge watch something nowadays, you can kiss that goodbye. The 90’s was the time to record things, if you had the money to buy the tapes. DVDs aren’t a thing, and kiss streaming music off Pandora or Spotify goodbye.

I can see that people think the past is simple and easy, but if you put it into perspective, we have so much more than any other generation. If people say they wish they can go back to the styles of the 50’s or 60’s, I would be more okay with that statement. Some of these things we have now can be good things and yeah, some of these things can be bad things, like people not vaccinating their kids, war, addictions, and test scores, but at least we can always look to the future. The future that our generation does in fact have the power to change now.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
