A growing trend today has been making something out of nothing. Politicians do it. The media does it. And more specifically, social media. Yes, that’s right, a majority of you people do it. And it’s annoying, really annoying. I’m tired of seeing it, and I’m pretty sure a lot of others are, but are just too scared to speak up. It’s uncalled for and just makes problems out of nothing.
Most of the examples that come to mind are people creating racism or sexism where there is none. By doing so, the people in the situation that are the so called “racists,” are not, but the people who deem this situation racist are the ones that are in fact racist. By creating racism out of nothing, it only leads to one conclusion, that you only look to create problems.
Of course in this progressive millennium era this is going to be the case. This generation simply can’t tolerate anything anymore, and always has to be complaining about something.
This has been going on for years though, ever since the whole police brutality incident occurred. Ever since then, the need to record every encounter with police or hostile people has turned into a major trend.
But this creates major problems. As seen on most of these videos that can be found throughout Facebook and Twitter, the recorder themselves are the ones creating the problem. When filming a normal police stop/encounter, instead of being calm and corporative, they instead try to make a scene to embarrass the cop or try to make him/her commit a wrongdoing in order to prove a point. But why? Why must you do that? Instead of attempting to erase the wrongdoing of some cops for future cops, you instead try to provoke them in order to show the public how “bad” these people are. Instead of solving the problem, you are just making matters worse.
The same can be said for some social media posts. Twitter is the worst with this, and most of the tweets on my timeline consist of stupid problems made out of nothing just to get retweets. Just the other day I saw a tweet with nothing wrong with it at first. Perfectly normal tweet about the whole United Airlines incident; the tweet was a picture of a white guy with a caption about hoping to not get dragged off the plane like the guy in the video did. Someone then replied to the tweet saying that “because he was white he didn’t have anything to worry about,” and this got thousands of retweets and favorites.
This is a perfect example of people making something out of nothing. Clearly the man was just expressing his feelings and felt unsafe on a United Airline, yet someone saw an issue with it because he was white. Apparently white people have nothing to worry about today…wrong. But that’s what most millennials think, that white people have the perfect life and are out to put minorities in the ground. That clearly isn’t the case at all, but hey, let’s let people live in their little fantasy land.
Once again, this is a common theme throughout social media lately. Everyone is against the right, and if you don’t agree with what the millennials have to say then you’re wrong and deemed a degrading label. This isn’t making the country united, its tearing it apart even more.
So, when you complain that the world is coming to shambles, maybe look in the mirror and reflect on what you could have done to help this matter, not make it worse.
