The Problem With College Campuses

There is a major problem with college campuses and not many people tend to care. The issue with colleges and universities is their obvious leftist bias and how they indoctrinate students. Colleges and universities create echo chambers and promote identity politics, shielding many students from reality.

The topics of echo chambers and identity politics are both dangerous. To start, the term "echo chamber" is being used describe how class rooms within colleges and universities produce no intellectual conflict, and that it is all one sided preaching. These students go in, listen to the radical or mostly false teachings of their professor and then proceed to reverberate the message. Anyone with a dissenting view is greeted with hostility. It is a conflict between the left and right, leftism versus conservatism.

It is noticeable that the left will use the terms "conservative" and "bigot" simultaneously. They are not synonyms, yet from the indoctrination of administrators, college students are taught to believe that. Intellectual diversity is hard to find on a campus, and that helps facilitate the one sided mindset. The left likes to pride themselves by claiming how they are tolerant and "champions for diversity". In reality they only care if you align with them, and any conversation questioning the narrative is seen as a threat. The only type of diversity they do not care for is that of intellectual diversity, and thus begins the game of identity politics with them.

Identity politics is just a useless tactic for someone engaging in political discussion that for the most part does not have information to defend their position. Identity Politics is forming an alliance with those who share similar traits, mainly based on race or social background. For example, if I gave my thoughts on how to help inner cities, because I am white, my thoughts would be negated simply because of my race. This ideology has plagued college campuses. My race or economic background should not have the majority of influence behind what I say. Facts, logic, and truth should hold the most weight. It is hard to get your points across when nonsense buzzwords like "white privilege" are thrown around. It has influenced many areas outside the college realm, even here at the Odyssey and I am not talking about the writers. When you write an article for the Odyssey, you can select a category to which it belongs and one of those categories is "Identities". Then you must select which identity the article belongs in and they have everything, including "white privilege". That is asinine. This game is being played on the other side as well and it needs to end. When identity politics rule, racism and polarization thrive.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha is going to elect a new chancellor and they had listening sessions open for people to voice their thoughts on what they would like to see in a chancellor. I went to the student listen session and I pressured the panel that UNO is moving in the wrong direction, that we need a chancellor to promote intellectual diversity. American universities and colleges are becoming these social justice warrior breeding grounds thanks in large part to the administrations. Students need to engage in intellectual conflict and listen to others with different ideas to gain a new perspective. Administrations need to encourage this as well and help end the echo chamber and identity politics nonsense.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
