“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” Ephesians 3:20
When was the last time you opened any form of social media and didn’t see anything about the upcoming election? Unless you live under a rock, it’s probably been a year or two. It’s almost as if the candidates are asking to be made fun of. Between the things they’re saying and the things they’re doing, how could we not find some comedic relief in it all?
But people, we have one month until the election. In one month, this all becomes real. In one month, the things we’ve been laughing at become very serious.
The person who gets elected in November will be the leader of the United States of America. The person who gets elected in November has immense power both nationally and internationally. The person who gets elected in November has access to nuclear codes and will become the commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces. The person who gets elected in November matters.
Sure, we’ve had better candidates to choose from in the past, but the problem that we face today isn’t the candidates’—the problem is that we think either of these people has the ability to save us. We’ve started to believe that these people can solve every issue America faces at home and abroad and that one of these people will solve the issues of race, poverty, education, economics, drugs and immigration once and for all.
The only person who can save us from turmoil and fix these problems doesn’t sit in the Oval Office and ride on Air Force One; He sits at the right hand of God and will ride in on clouds of glory.
As, “One nation under God,” why are we looking to human beings for answers? Should we not want a leader who looks to Heaven for answers? The truth of the matter is that until we have a president who communicates with the Lord more than himself or his cohorts, our problems will remain.
I know we can’t change the 2016 candidates, and I’m not advocating for that. I am, however, advocating for prayer. We should constantly be praying for the future of this country, and we should especially be praying for the future leader of this country.
Neither of these candidates will save this country, the world, or us. The One who is able to do this has already done it, and he’s coming back. The only things we are able to do at this point are pray and talk to the One who has every answer to every problem and can do immeasurably more than we could ever imagine.
It’s time to recognize the implications this election has on the future of this country—not only its effect on our generations, but on the many generations to come. It’s time to stop laughing at the candidates and take this election seriously, and it's time we start praying intentionally each and every day for these people and our country.
