The Pressures Of Being A Woman In Our Society

Being a female in this world is difficult. Society tells us we need to dress modestly but also look sexy, that we are weak, and that we must never be a "bitch" when we are trying to be assertive. Growing up, I was always quiet and never really stood up for myself and when I finally started to learn and grow to be more assertive, I was immediately labeled "bitchy" and "mean". This concept boggled my mind because I was proud that I was able to speak up and suddenly people thought other wise.

In high school, we were told not to wear shorts, leggings, and tank tops. I thought this was completely unfair because, for one, we live in Florida and it's extremely hot outside and covering up is out of the question. So I was supposed to learn that my shoulders and thighs could potentially distract boys in my class? I'm sorry, but don't we all have shoulders and thighs and SKIN?! If my skin is more concerning than textbooks and term papers, what are we supposed to be doing in school? Questions like these still run through my mind as I see daily articles about little girls being sent home from school because of visible collar bones or a little bit of cleavage.

This brings me to the fact that men have the ability to freely walk around basically naked. Men can go running outside at night time shirtless and they would be much safer than a woman doing the same in a sports bra. Now, I'm not saying that men aren't prone to danger as well, but it's more likely that something will happen to a woman than a man.

I'm glad that people of all genders and color are taking a stand against this huge issue and many other issues that we are facing, but things aren't going to change overnight. I can't wait to see the day when people of all kinds can be equal, with no judgement or discrimination.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
