Most people have there go-to drink throughout the day. Some people drink coffee, some drink tea and some sip on soda. Me personally? I sip on organic imperial grade Matcha from Japan. I was introduced to matcha through a good friend of mine. At first I was hesitant as my friend described this zen like state that you fall into as you sip on your super green tea. He went on to tell me about Japanese warriors who would drink the green juice before battle so that they would be mentally sharp and alert. It all sounded intriguing and he definitely had my attention. I asked him if he would bring me in a serving so I could try it. He was more then happy but did warn me that introducing matcha into your life needed to be a commitment and you don't fully feel and appreciate the matcha until you start drinking it consistently. He challenged me, buy a canister, drink it every day, finish the canister and report back to him. By the third week I needed no more convincing. I was giving up coffee for good. There is no real way to describe what matcha feels like. It's a combination of zen and bliss. Below you can find out about the top five reasons to drink matcha.

1. Potent source of nutrients

  • When you drink matcha you are ingesting the entire leaf, doing this allows you to consume the maximum amount of nutrients. Matcha is rich in polyphenols which are antioxidants that have been linked to protecting against diseases such as cancer and heart disease

2. Caffeine

  • You don't have to worry about kicking caffeine after giving up coffee. Matcha does contain caffeine and possesses l-theanine which produces a relaxing and alert calm. You receive all these benefits without the drowsiness after.

3. Memory and Concentration

  • L-theanine aides in the production of dopamine and serotonin. The production of these chemicals enhances mood, memory and concentration.

4. Detoxification

  • During the harvesting process the tea leaves are deprived from sunlight which greatly increase chlorophyll production. Not only does this contribute to the bright green color of matcha but it also serves as a natural detoxifier. Matcha naturally removes toxins and heavy metals from the body.

5. Immune booster

  • The combination of powerful nutrients and catechins in matcha give you an overall health boost. These serve to fortify your immune system.

No amount of facts or descriptions will convince you to drink matcha. You will have to try it for yourself in order to be convinced how powerful it is. Matcha isn't cheap either but it's worth it. Also, don't cheat yourself, quality matcha is gonna cost you. If you get a cheaper version it will be made with sugar, such as Starbucks matcha which has sugar listed as its first ingredient. I personally use Teavana's Organic Imperial Matcha. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
