"Nobody's perfect"

You have probably heard this one before. I heard this phrase so many times growing up that I never even bothered to question its validity and soon enough, it unconsciously became a part of my vocabulary.

We are constantly forced to accept that no matter how hard we work or how close we get, perfection can simply never be attained. I did not matter how put-together or "proper" one might appear to be, there was always a blemish of some sort that qualified them as flawed - just like everybody else. How easy it is to use this as an excuse as to why not to try harder. I mean, why go on when you are never going to get there anyways? After all, "Practice makes perfect, but no one's perfect, so why practice." (Thanks, Kurt Cobain)

Well, look at it this way,

We all know Superman, a superhero, one of a kind guy, has all these special abilities that he uses to fight the bad guys and save the world. Now imagine if everyone was superman, different strengths and special abilities maybe, but still superman. First of all, Mr. Clark Kent as we know him would just be known as "Man", as there will be nothing "super" or extraordinary about him, he'll just be like the rest of us. Basically, If everybody's a superhero, nobody's a superhero. Thus, in that same sense, if everybody's perfect, nobody's perfect, except of course, EVERYBODY!

It didn't take me as long to realize this fact as it took me to actually believe it and accept that I in fact am perfect, that I am the most perfect me there is, was, and ever will be and it is not like some prize I won after my long days of hard work, it is every step I make in my journey to attain my goals, it is my successes and my failures, my wins and my loses, my entire learning process, not just the end result. It is all just perfect.

Now, this is not me bragging or being egocentric in any way, I mean, it is only bragging when the other person does not have what I have. In this case, everybody does. We are all the most perfectly fabricated components of ourselves and we need to get that first before anyone else can.

To get a better understanding and come into acceptance of this, we must begin by redefining "Perfect", with each person to their own interpretation. "Perfect" is generally understood to be portraying the absolute description of an ideal type, and since no two people are exactly alike, the "ideal type" does not even exist. Now, this does not mean that "perfect" does not exist, it simply varies by person.

The worst mindset a person could have is thinking that they're just so perfect and everyone else is not. This means that you only believe that you're perfect because everyone else is not and if somehow they happened to be, you would not be anymore. You avoid anything that could possibly challenge you and your growth is left stagnant since you feel that you have nothing left to achieve, you have it all.

Again, perfect is not an end result, it is the journey towards.

Society has strategically constructed this ideal of what perfection should entail; the perfect hair, the perfect height, the perfect job, the perfect complexion, the perfect life, and now, most of what you see being portrayed in the media is the socially constructed example of perfect, and in order to become "perfect", you must eject your sweet, sweet, innocent little self from who you truly are and turn into a person who society has decided that you should be. That is not perfect, that is just false. You are either true to yourself or you are not.

This is not to say that if you actually liked that perfect little haircut you saw on T.V. the other day and you get one that matches, that you are not being true to your own perfection - and I am not saying that that "ideal" height, or job, or life accepted by society is not perfect, I'm simply saying, so are you! The beauty of self-growth is that we are not alone, we are constantly inspired by what we hear and what we see around us.

If you live your life constantly seeking the validation of society and striving to appeal to its ideals, then you will never be able to appreciate the already established perfection that is you!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
