Recently, there has been the controversy over the movement called The Power of Makeup. It all started with a Youtuber Nikkie de Jager or also known as Nikkie Tutorials. In her video, she only applies makeup to half of her face and explains that whether she is wearing makeup or not, she is the same person. This video started a movement and encouraged many others to show The Power of Makeup.
Reactions to this video included phrases such as "this is why you take her swimming on the first date", "why we'll be running around the track on the first date", and "I wonder who's really hiding under that mask".
Who cares if she’s wearing makeup or if she isn't? Everyone should be able to express themselves the way that they please, whether it be through fashion, makeup, or anything else. First of all, makeup is an art, it’s just the same as someone painting a scenery portrait. Carving out your cheekbones to achieve the perfect contour or blending your eyeshadow seamlessly takes just as much practice as anything else would.Make-up is a form of expression that should not be put down. Women wear makeup to feel confident about themselves. Putting someone down because you don’t like the way something looks is belittling. Remember the phrase “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”? Well, it applies here. Basically, I want everyone to have enough confidence to wear as much makeup as you want without fear of being made fun of.
