There are a lot of questions I have about love, and I am not here to answer them for you since I myself do not know any of the answers. I do, however, think that I have a general understanding of the power of love. There are so many different types of love that exist—romantic love, familial love, love for friends or pets, love for an activity or hobby or area of study—but, despite their differences in relation, each love in your life helps you feel less lonely and a little bit more as though you have a purpose.
An undeniable love for anything helps to focus your brain and can encourage you to set goals for yourself and your future. Take, for example, a love for coffee. Because you love coffee so much, you are driven to get your day started in the morning by either making your own delicious cup or buying one from a coffee shop. Without the coffee, what excitement would you have in the morning that drives you out of bed? Every person loves something or someone enough to get out of bed in the morning. That might seem like a sweeping statement to make, but if you can apply it to the broader picture of your life it must be true.
If you are sitting here thinking to yourself that you are sad and you do not have love, I challenge you to fall in love right now. It is way easier than you think, I promise! Seriously, I probably fall in love with like three new things every day. Try falling in love with the feeling of using a q-tip in your ear (even though I don't think you are technically supposed to do that, it is one of my favorite experiences ever). It is that easy. Just one small thing to look forward to and your entire life is changed! And then you get to sit back in awe and look at love's unwavering power.
These ideas are not completely random, if you were wondering. During quarantine I have felt alone on multiple different occasions for many different reasons that are completely irrelevant. What was important was that I was always able to remind myself that I will never be alone as long as I can find love within me and use it to connect with something else. My prior loneliness has now turned into a new-found hobby of writing poems, going on disturbingly long walks, and laying in my backyard hammock. Even though I am alone in all of these instances, my passion for what I am doing helps me to feel fulfilled.
I strongly believe that loving another person is one of the greatest experiences a human can have. This can be a touchy statement because of the incredible pain that often comes after; but, if you are able to look at your relationship without pain as a bias, the feelings that you felt during it helped you grow immensely. Human to human connections help you understand the human race in a way that just existing side by side would never teach you. Whether this quarantine is testing relationships, forming new ones, or rekindling old ones, be sure to emphasize and be grateful for their presence in your life. Memories made while in love are memories that will be remembered for the rest of your life. And that is just how love works.
