For those who don't know, it's true that, in just one moment, a few sincere words can totally alter your perspective. In fact, it can happen at the most unexpected times.
A few days ago, I was driving around my neighborhood, as I often do, scoping out the beautiful homes I passed by. By accident, I turned on to a street that was a dead end next to a driveway, and, as I pulled out, a man on his bicycle came up to my window. Startled and slightly confused, I rolled down my window to see what he wanted. As it turns out, he and his fiancée were new to the neighborhood, and he just wanted to say hello.
We started talking, and I found out that he and his fiancée are motivational speakers and industry experts that focus all of their energy on positivity and how to become successful. They take any opportunity for success and they seize it, like using social media accounts to advertise themselves and to build their brands.
Cesar explained to me how he utilized his strengths to create success for himself and to open doors to new ventures, and all I could think about was my fear of rejection. What if I took a risk to do something outside of the box and failed? I expressed this to him, and his words changed my mindset entirely. He explained to me how failure is inevitable, and that with every risk we take, we allow ourselves to be vulnerable to the idea that things might not work out as planned. Although it seems like such a basic idea, I left inspired.
Most of us 20-somethings spend our lives trying to remain on a linear path: finish grade school, get a college degree, maintain a 9 to 5 job, get married, and have kids. While there is nothing wrong with this path, it is limiting, and neglects the idea that the course of your life might not go as planned.
Opportunities arise, chances are given, and, if you’re smart, you just might take advantage of them. As Cesar explained, to be successful, you have to set out goals for yourself and possess the fiery passion that will drive you towards achieving them. Those who don’t think they’re capable of a big life will never create one for themselves, and might be sitting in a rocking chair someday regretting all of the shots they never took.
Although the cliché is mocked, this is truly the time to be alive. Our generation has the tools and brainpower to invent new jobs, expand upon rising careers, and to create the most technologically advanced lives ever possible. If you mix a little hard work in with the hunger to reach your goals, you have the perfect combination for success. When Cesar and Tanya toured me around their movie room, in-home gym, and towering fireplace, a spark ignited within me. I knew that this was the life I wanted for myself, and that I’ll stop at nothing to achieve it. There really is room at the top for everyone, so this could be your life, too.
