Spring Break is that magical week in which all worries and cares about classes, tests, projects, and other obligations seem to evaporate into thin air. And whether you spent your spring break lounging on the beach, soaking up the sun, or whatever else people do during spring break, there's that feeling that comes over you as your vacation draws to an end.
You pack up all your stuff, including the enormous basket of laundry you brought home for you mom to do. You also make sure to raid the refrigerator and grab what you can so you don't have to spend money on groceries for (at least) the next week. You are feeling great, tanned, refreshed, and ready to finish the semester strong.
On the journey back to school, this feeling starts to come over you. It's strange and you can't really seem to put your finger on what it is. Oh, whatever could it be? And then all at one moment, it comes rushing over you.
The weight of the world's responsibilities just decided to take a seat on your shoulders. Real life is back and the post-spring break lull has crept its way into your life.
For that first week back, motivation plummets, and getting to class seems more difficult than running a marathon...twice. Waking up early to get to the gym is a joke. The only reason you do get up earlier than you need to is to make sure you have time to stop at the campus coffee shop that always has a line that seems to stretch all the way to Narnia. Caffeine is necessary for this.
It's not just you; the overall feeling on campus is...lackluster.
When you hang out with your friends, you can't decide if you want to go out or stay in to binge-watch "Friends" and order Chinese.
After classes, studying and homework is the last thing on your mind. You sit at your desk with your textbook open, you distract yourself by stalking Instagram for beach pics. Spring break is just a distant memory and the only way you get through it is to imagine that glorious feeling you will have when you pack up your stuff and head home for summer so that you may return to sleeping in and spending your days without a care in the world.
The truth is, everyone one of us goes through this and there really isn't anything we can do about it but find something that gets us excited. Though the idea of skipping class and staying in bed is appealing, avoiding real life is not the best option.
There is no shame in posting a couple more pictures just to get it out of your system, but it can be a cycle that we get stuck in with no way out, but the best thing you can do is focus on the positive, try new things, get out, be social, and break out of that slump.
