The Positive Energy Diet

Why cutting negative energy out of your life can benefit you.

Everyday we all encounter something that will get on our nerves, make us upset, angry, or what have you. Things like this poison our minds; we marinate in the negative energy all day. We think “why?” or “what?” or “seriously?!”

For me, this wasn’t worth it. I could no longer worry myself over the things and people I surrounded myself in. Many times in life I’ve heard “don’t sweat the small stuff” and for someone with anxiety (like myself) that’s near impossible. Yes, cutting negative energy and negative people out of your life may be hard. And yes, not dwelling on negative events may also be hard - it definitely takes time but I promise you, it’s worth it.

I call this the “Positive Energy Diet.” Just like any diet, it limits what you take in. With this particular diet, only take in good, positive energy. Cut out all the bad, gunky, negative energy out. Your soul will thank you.

Your body, your soul, and your mind cannot thrive off of negative impressions. It cannot operate on negative thoughts, energies, or company. Just as a car cannot run on bad motor oil, you cannot run on bad energy.

There’s plenty of ways you can do this easy, simple positivity diet. It all starts with realizing what EXACTLY is causing the negativity. Is it those you surround yourself with? Is it the negativity in the media? Is it what people say to you? Or what they say about others? Assessing the cause is important. It makes you step back and take a look at your life as a whole. And, it makes it easier to pinpoint and cut out of your life.

Yes, it will be hard. But, yes, I believe in you.

Once you cut the negative energy out of your life, the weight of that negative energy alleviates off. It changes everything - the sun shines brighter, your smile gets wider, and everyone around you will seem to burst with life. Everything changes for the better.

Nobody deserves to live with negative energy or negative company surrounding them. Feeding into it only burdens your soul more. It takes a toll on you mentally and physically. It is shown that, yes, negative energy can, in fact, change the way you live your life and cause a physical and mental toll on someone. Mentally, it can lead to things like depression, anxiety (or higher anxiety), body image issues, etc. Physically, it can lead to sickness, weakened muscles, and, possibly, death.

So, do yourself a favor, even just for a day, try and cut negative energy and those producing it out of your life. Give yourself a chance to reach the sun. Give yourself a change to experience nature, family, friends, and life to the fullest. Do all of this without even THINKING negatively. It will change you. Hopefully that one day will become one week. The week into a month. And that month into a year.

I can only hope that everyone, one day, will be able to live a positive, radiant life full of unaltered happiness; you are your own miraculous, positive entity and you deserve to live a life full of positivity and light.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
