I have no problem telling people that I’m not a natural brunette or that I fill in my eyebrows, but I hate to tell people that I am plus size. I hide this fact for the fear of being judged or looked at as a “fat” girl. America has created a certain body image and girls who do not fit this category are considered imperfect. As a plus size girl, I face many daily struggles.
1. Different brands mean different sizes.
Just because you are large in one brand doesn’t mean you’re always large. Sometimes you’re a 2X or a 1X. This can be a struggle for girls of any size! I completely understand that, but being plus sized causes issues in sizes because some brands only go to an XL. So just because you like the cute top doesn’t mean you can have it.
2. Cute is hard to find.
Most brands carry a regular sized clothing line and a DIFFERENT plus size clothing line. Why can’t they carry the exact same line, but from an XXS to a XXXXL. I don’t understand why there has to be a difference.I understand that some styles may not look the best on plus sized women, but every woman should be allowed to wear whatever she wants.
3. One size fits all is a BIG lie.
In a lot of cases it’s not even “one size fits most.” I would also love to know who they are describing as “all” or “most."
4. Quantity and quality.
There are way fewer options in a plus size clothing section. Where there may be 20 different options in a regular section. There may only be about five in a plus size section. Also, the quality of the fabric used in plus size clothing is cheaper and not as durable as regular sized clothing.
5. Online VS. in store.
Shopping online provides plus size girls with a lot more options. However, online shopping makes it difficult to purchase the right size. In-store shopping makes it easy to try on and find your right size but has very limited options. So you really can’t win either way.
OK, America we need to fix this. We need to quit categorizing plus sized women as if they don’t matter. We pay the same price as everyone else, and we have the right to wear whatever we feel looks good on us. Women of all different shapes and sizes run into all sorts of problems. Fashion industries need to fix their array of sizes, and lengths. We are not all 5’7 and we are not all 112 pounds. We are all uniquely beautiful and deserve a style that accentuates the beauty we already have. Being plus size, or skinny, or short, or tall isn’t a problem. Society’s perception of beauty is the issue!
Love your body, and love yourself!
