The Plethora Of Feelings That Come With The End Of The Year
Lauren Perrone

There is a variety of different emotions that comes with the end of a school year. Whether you're a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior, in high school or college, we all know those end of the year butterflies. Excited for summer, but sad because it's the end of another amazing year. Friendships were formed, memories were made, goals were achieved, and our lives were forever changed.

1. Excited

Excited for the summer. Excited for an end to the 7:50 a.m.'s. Excited for an end to the studying. Excited to be reunited with old friends. Excited to be reunited with the beach, and bonfires. Excited for those summers nights, just full of good friends, making new memories, and talking about the old. Excited to be home. Excited for days in the summer sun.

2. Accomplished

Looking back on a full school year, one cannot help but feel accomplished. Accomplished for reaching goals, and persevering through challenging classes. Accomplished for pulling an all nighter, but making an A on a test. Accomplished for growing as a person, and a student from the beginning of the semester to the end. Accomplished for stepping out of one’s comfort zone, and achieving more than one could ever imagine.

3. Frantic

The end of the year hustle and bustle. Frantically trying to pack everything in to the final week of school. Feeling frantic about the amount of work left, in such a little amount of time.

4. Optimistic

Staying optimistic walking into final exams. Staying optimistic about final grades. Staying optimistic as one reaches goals. Optimism is the key to success.

5. Regret

Regretting what you didn’t do, or what you could have done. Or maybe regretting that one Thursday where you went bananas but had a 7:50 a.m. the next morning? But the most important part is to remember to not let your regret overcome your sense of accomplishment.

6. Encouraged

Encouraged by your family and friends to achieve your goals. Encouraged to power through final exams. Encouraged to put your best foot forward, and that you are capable of achieving, and doing great things. Encouraged to succeed.

7. Calm

Everyone needs those five minutes a day, to take a deep breath, and relax, because it’s all going to work out.

8. Disappointed

People let you down. Things happen. You didn’t get that job, or that internship you wanted. Yeah, you studied all night for that one test, and you didn’t do so hot. Disappointment is a part of life. But you always managed to put your best foot forwards, and that should be accounted for.

9. Sad

Sad to be leaving your family away from family for the whole summer. Or if you’re a senior, sad to be leaving such a special community, but knowing you’ve made your mark, and you’ll always be welcomed back.

10. Nervous

Nervous that coming back too many things will change. Nervous that exams won’t go well. Nervous that things won’t work out. Nervous for the future. It’s okay to be nervous. My swim coach, Coach Rainey, always told me nervous energy is extra energy-- use it.

11. Relieved

You did it!

12. Inspired

Looking back, you’re inspired for the future. Inspired to set higher goals. Inspired to set a little bit more outside of your comfort zone. Inspired to change what you don’t like. Inspired to have an even better year than the previous one.

13. Grateful

Grateful for your education. Grateful for your school. Grateful for your professors and tutors. Grateful for your friends that became family. Grateful for what life has blessed you with thus far.

14. Nostalgic

College changes you. Friendships are made. Goals are reached. Memories are made. Opportunities were seized. It is hard not to look back, and say, “Wow, what a year.”
