I get it, I'm with you. My entire life I have never felt like I was doing enough. I played endless amounts of sports when I was younger, did girl scouts, did adventure sports, and did well in school, but I always wanted more. Then came college. In college your surrounded by the most insanely impressive people you'll ever meet. It's like some of these people were born to be written about in news papers or history books or something. Being surrounded by this much success can be terrifying.
College has a lot of opportunities to get involved and be a successful person. Sometimes, you can get involved in everything and still not feel like you're doing enough. There will always be someone who is doing more, and sometimes it's hard to get that out of your head. Maybe you should have joined that fraternity or sorority, maybe you should have joined more clubs, or found a job working as a TA. It seems like everywhere you look people are doing bigger and better things. All your friends are in multiple executive boards in clubs and honor societies and here you are, just IN the honor society. I can't be the only one that thinks like this. Okay, so, just a reminder for all of us out there that feel like we're just not doing enough in college.
We are successful. Most people don't even end up in college so just the fact that we're here is a major accomplishment. We are doing enough. If you are in some clubs, keeping up your GPA, socializing, working in research labs, whatever it is you're doing in college, you're doing enough. You're brightening your future just by being there and everything else is just an added bonus. I promise some of you are like me and ignore the people who are amazed by how much you do, or who say they're proud of you. Don't. If people are saying you are doing a lot, you're probably doing more than you think you are. If people tell you they're proud, even for something as small as getting an A on a test, be proud of yourself too!
College is hard, and pressure to be perfect is everywhere. You don't need to be perfect. Do what you enjoy. If you do what you enjoy in college I promise you'll become one of those impressive people that you're surrounded by. Work hard, play hard, and stop putting so much pressure on yourself! You're doing amazing, and I'm so proud of you.
