There's amazing perks to having a roommate. Don't take them for granted!

It is always amazing when you have a roommate and it works out. We always hear those horror stories about roommates not getting along, and it can almost scare you out of having a roommate. Sometimes, however, you get lucky and your roommate is your best friend. This makes the experience worth documenting because it is one that some people will never get to experience.

1. They are always down to go to the grocery store with you.

I rarely go to the store alone because my roommate is always down to be my partner in crime. She helps me to not buy things I don't need, because I always end up spending way too much when I go alone.

2. They are always willing to drink with you.

It is very frowned upon to drink by yourself. Alcoholism is not cute, folks. I promise it looks a little bad when you are chugging wine alone. Does it happen? Yeah. Can I say I have not drank alone? Nope. BUT it is pretty nice when your roomie is down to watch sappy love movies and drink some wine.

3. They will tell you when you look stupid.

They let you know that the scarf you want to wear doesn't look good with that purple v-neck. This is probably my favorite thing about living with my best friend, because, thankfully, she never lets me leave the house looking stupid, which I am forever grateful for.

4. They always bring you home a pint of ice cream.

My favorite thing is when my roommate goes to get a pint of Ben & Jerry’s and she picks me up a pint of my favorite. I never have to ask I usually just receive a neat little snap chat of that beautiful pint of ice cream in our freezer. ( I really love ice cream).

5. You can vent to them… and even snap at them.

I would be lying if I said it is always bliss to live with your best friend. It's only bad when you have reached your maximum stress level, they don't wash off a dish, and you start screaming at them about things they did two years ago.Even if it's something that you don't care about, but you just need to vent and yell, and they become your punching bag. The bright side is that they ALWAYS understand and let you yell like an idiot. Eventually you laugh it off, and you become closer than you were before.

6. You're both super comfortable together.

I love that I can say anything to my roommate. I can say some off the wall crap that would have anyone wanting to hit the door screaming after talking to me, but my roommate just laughs and joins along. I am not afraid to ask her weird, embarrassing questions because I know there is absolutely no judgment. Our apartment is a judgment free zone.

7. They know you better than anyone.

They know when you are upset, happy, sick, or stressed because they have seen it all. They know you better than you probably know yourself. It can be annoying because it means you have to talk about everything, but it is also nice. After all, it is free therapy.

8. They encourage you.

I personally handle stress terribly. I tend to hide in a blanket burrito and ignore the world, but my roommate always encourages me to be the best that I can be. My roommate lifts me up when every part of me feels like I have hit a wall and I am going on a downward spiral. It’s awesome to live with someone who knows when you need to hear “It is all going to be okay.”

I am blessed to have the roommate I do and I probably do not acknowledge how lucky I am that I was blessed with someone like her in my life. Not everyone has the feeling of being excited to come home to their roommate, but it is nice that we have created a place where we are both comfortable. It honestly is a blessing to be best friends with your roommate. It is a blessing that many take for granted.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
