Skyscrapers are just the beginning.

When I was looking at colleges, having an entertaining and vibrant atmosphere to live in was at the top of my list. I toured tons of schools that were thrown in the middle of nowhere which seemed like it could have been fun for the first year or so, but I could see myself getting bored pretty quickly.

So, I decided to narrow my search down to schools that would offer me constant enjoyment. Once I found a school in the midst of downtown Cleveland, a growing city in Ohio, I knew I would never get bored. I applied, got accepted and haven't looked back since. Here's a short list of the endless amounts of awesome stuff that comes along with living and going to college in a city.

1. There's more to do than going to house parties every weekend.

There's always special events going on during any given weekend. Most of them are free and it's an awesome way to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone. Don't get me wrong, I love a good house party, but it does get a little repetitive after a while so it's nice to know that I can change things up whenever I want.

2. Skyscrapers

Walking to class at 8am isn't the worst thing in the world when you're surrounded by gigantic buildings.

3. Sporting events and concerts

I'm fortunate enough to live in a city where (most) of the professional sports teams are the best in the country and I live within walking distance to all of the games. Also, there are tons of concerts almost every night and the House of Blues is less than a mile away from me.

4. Tourists

All of the sporting events and concerts bring in tons of visitors from out of town and it's always refreshing to see people who are enjoying themselves in the awesome city that you live in.

5. More room for opportunity

Because of all of the huge companies that are located downtown, I have tons of opportunities for internships.

6. Businessmen during lunch hour

And with those major companies located downtown comes a great thing: businessmen in suits. Watching attractive professionals grabbing lunch every afternoon is 100x better than being surrounded by college guys in the dining hall.

7. Lofted apartments

Nothing beats 20-foot ceilings with open floor plans.

8. Celebrities

Justin Bieber got in a fight outside of a popular bar about a mile away from my apartment and Khloe Kardashian works out at a gym right down the street from me. Not everyone can say that now, can they?

9. Everything you need is within walking distance.

Grocery stores, pharmacies, shopping mall, and liquor stores are all a fifteen-minute walk or less.

I know that I'm here to get a good education, but living in the city is definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
