I, like everyone else, am struggling to sleep with the ever looming “finals” hanging over my heads. Between the projects, papers, and actual finals who has time for a thing called sleep. On top of that for the people who go to school away from home we have to deal with cleaning our entire room top to bottom and packing for the joyous month we get off. So let’s hear it for the coffee shops that pump our veins with the caffeine to keep us awake and studying. Thank you to the restaurants that are open late for our small study breaks that we can stuff our face. Thank you to the parents that understand why they haven’t heard from us in weeks. All of these challenges and struggles lead each and every one of us happy to soon be reaping the perks of being on break.

1. Not Having to Wake up for 8a.m. Class

This is going to be so nice for so many people. You’ll also be able to hydrate your body with something other than coffee soon. Thankfully I did not have an 8a.m. class this semester, but I know a fair share of people that did so hang in there guys you’ll be able to sleep in a few short days.

2. HOME COOKED MEALS

I am looking forward to this so much! I miss the breakfasts my parents would cook. The pastas my mom would cook, and the noodles my grandma would make so much. Homemade meals are so taking for granted when your younger. This is one of the best perks about being home for break.

3. Having your Best Friend in Driving Distance

Another incredible perk is being about to go see my best friend again. Whether that means driving the whole 15 minutes it takes to get to her house or bothering her at work I can’t wait to be able to both again.

4. Christmas Cookies

Anyone who is close to me knows how much I love Christmas and a big part of that is the baking side. My mom makes the best Christmas cookies and I have loved helping her decorate them since I was a toddler. I also love making cupcakes with Christmas themes and I’m sure everyone of us loves eating the cookies and/or cupcakes.

5. Sleeping in Your Own Bed

This is also an underrated thing to think about when you are younger or if you go to school at home, but I can not wait for this. To be able to curl in my own bed, I even miss my little cat and how she takes up over half of the bed. Everyone who has every gone to school away from home or like slept in a hotel before will be able to relate to how nice it is to sleep in your own bed.

6. Being Around Family During Christmastime

Whether you always want to claim your family members or not they are your family and the Christmas season always bring people together. I can’t wait to celebrate with my family throughout the Christmas season and give gifts to my friends and family (my favorite part of Christmas) and just be able to hug and laugh with everyone again.

So for all of my fellow college students hold on! You are almost done. Soon you will be reaping the great perks and benefits of a great month's break.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
