The Perfect Skinny Dip

Cooling off on a hot summer day

The Perfect Skinny Dip

The feeling of water is amazing. The way it flows, fast and slow, around your flesh. The feeling of the pressure gradient constantly shifting on all parts of your body leaves you in awe. Icy cold from the snow run-off, the water cools your blood on a hot day, relaxing your nerves. Senses refreshed the body and mind feel new again. No restrictions, just you and the water...

Cherry Creek is a place that makes you feel small in a huge world. The towering canyon walls reach above you on all sides. Giant rocks and boulders are scattered along the canyon floor from the ever-present force of gravity. As the seasons change from winter to spring, Cherry Creek is flowing at its peak. The cool stream gives the abundance of trees a chance to survive in the hot dry summers of northern Utah. Theses trees make you feel cozy in the chaos of the canyon. The thick leaves and tall trunks protect you from the sun and wind. During this time of the year, when the snowpack is almost gone, the stream lowers to a more manageable flow. The large rocks jut out of the creek while the water rushes all around them. The crystal clear water is icy cold from the snow melt. The chilling effect is felt in my feet, as well as the Hop-Nosh cans cooling in the creek.

I had been wandering up the creek for a while now since the trail crossed over the stream. The cold water on a hot day is what drew me in. The temperatures were reaching over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. I was well equipped! I had quick drying shorts and sandals on. The water was inviting, not intimidating. With the water rushing past my knees, I stayed grounded to the rocks below the surface. My sandals grippy rubber soles made it easy to grip onto anything I stepped on. Step by step I made it to where I am now. I sit with my feet hanging into a deep pool. My shorts are elsewhere as I have already taken a dip. A cold Uinta brew livens my spirit, and I let the sensory experience engulf my every thought. I find peace in the flow. I can relax in the cold. The sun sparkles on my wet bare skin. I will forever love Skinny Dipping.

One of the most dreaded places on campus is the library. Nothing awesome ever happens here. Usually, the only reason you're here is because you've procrastinated so long that the library is the only place you'll actually get stuff done. It gives you this feeling of sadness and impending doom. You have no idea how this is going to go or how long you'll be here, but you do know it is about to be the most excruciating experiences yet. But it has to get done, so you drag yourself to the lovely library.

With each new year comes new goals.

Deciding on a goal can be hard, unsure of what to change for this new year. A new goal for myself is to be happier and take care of myself more. I am a very driven person; so driven that I commit to a million and ten things.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.
