How To Have The Perfect "Gilmore Girls" Day

In This Article:

The air is crisper, the leaves are changing colors, pumpkin spice is on the menu again, and we know what that means: “Gilmore Girls” season is back! In the midst of your annual rewatch of our favorite mother-daughter duo and their small town shenanigans, take a day and make your own memories based on iconic moments in the series. For inspiration, here are a few ideas to get started.

Coffee, coffee, coffee! And pop tarts.

Beginning your day with coffee is a must. Now, you don’t have to have as much as the Gilmore women (it takes years of training to eat the way they do), but enjoy a cup with your breakfast, and don’t forget to have a pop tart for desert!

Go to a fall festival.

If there’s one thing Lorelai and Rory are always doing on their small town days off, it’s attending the latest festival that Doose has cooked up. Check your local newspaper or go online and look up any festivity that sounds like fun to you. Bonus points if there’s basket picnicking involved.

Eat at a diner.

It wouldn’t be a proper Gilmore Girls Day if you didn’t visit a diner. Grab some chili fries and more coffee if needed. Should you happen to run into a grumpy guy who owns the joint, leaving a nice note on his horoscope might brighten his day.

Visit a bookstore.

Our favorite bookworm Rory loves to peruse (and smell) the shelves of a good bookstore. Try a used bookstore where you can find rare gems or classics like Jane Austen’s “Emma” that the youngest Gilmore would appreciate. Steer clear of Ayn Rand though…

Stop by a record store.

This one’s for my fellow Jess girlies. Reminisce on the iconic episode where Rory spontaneously hopped a bus to New York and spent the day exploring the city with Luke's nephew. While you’re at it, channel your inner Lane and pick up a classic rock album.

Hangout at a local college campus.

Recreate “The Roadtrip To Harvard” by spending some time walking around a campus. While you won’t be able to “accidentally” stumble into a class and join in on the discussion, you can have a mini photoshoot or even stop by a tailgate party if it’s game day.

Get takeout.

Pizza or Chinese food recommended. Take on the entire chicken column if you’re feeling ambitious. For Indian, just remember to burn the house down afterwards (it’s the only way to kill the smell, after all).

Have a movie night.

Once you’ve got your dinner, pick out your favorite movie, one featured in the show, the show itself, or an episode of the revival to go with it. Then curl up on the couch and talk through the parts you didn’t talk through last time. If it’s Willy Wonka, don’t forget all the candy!

Stay at an inn.

To end the day, since you’ll probably be exhausted after all that without all the coffee, reserve a room at a cute little inn to wind down. Beware of walls covered floor-to-ceiling in flowers, but make sure to leave a little note in the guest book on your way out.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
