For this week’s post, I am returning back to my series of the Perfect Day. Now the recap of Part 4:
When we last left Kolby and James. Kolby was relishing in her victory and making plans for her and Carl. We also learned a bit more about the manipulative Kolby and her early life. As for Carl, he was back in his office when he bumped into a woman named Rachel who had worked with him before and was in town. Clearly, there was something between them given the way Rachel reacted to the news Carl was still with Kolby. Carl immediately began feeling guilty as Rachel left, but we are not sure if it was about her or the fact he kept this from Kolby. Back in the hospital, Kolby was plotting to get back at James for all the pain he has caused her. She wanted revenge. Then, James came in to reveal yet another secret to her. He mentions Rachel. Kolby does not understand and is left fuming. After James leaves, Carl walks in and finds that Kolby has been sobbing. Then she turns around and demands to know who Rachel is?
Now on to Part 5
“So Carl when were you going to tell me about Rachel?” cried Kolby.
Carl walked over to Kolby.
“Hey, hey, what happened? “Carl asked trying to keep his composure.
“No! You better tell me who this tramp is and I mean now Carl!”
“Alright, but can you calm down?” he asked.
He walked over to her once again.
Inside Kolby was fuming. Her thoughts were racing.
Rachel; who is she?
How does Carl know her?
Carl walked over to the window,
“First you must know Rachel is someone I knew before we met. “
So Carl loved someone before me.
Man, I never thought I would have to talk about her.
“Look, Carl, just speak!”
Okay, well Rachel is someone I met before I moved here. We worked for the same firm. She was one of the lawyers there.
Meanwhile, Carl began talking to a very unimpressed Kolby. He flashbacks to the past.
It was six years earlier and he was back in Chicago. He had been working with Colton and Morgan Law Firm which was known for being one of the top litigation firms focusing on disputes over money, property, and insurance. Carl was being considered for partner. This was something he had been envisioning for a long time. It was not official, but they were considering it and that was enough,
Carl could envision Colton, Morgan & Jameson. He liked the sound of that. At the same time, he began working with Rachel Smith. He had known her back in school and now she was beginning at the law firm. She was a hard worker. Things between them began to get romantic as they began working on a big case for the firm. One thing led to another and things got steamy with them. It all seemed that Rachel and Carl were taking it to the next level. But Carl’s career was something he cared for more.
Back in the present. He glared at Kolby.
“So you broke it off with her?” asked Kolby.
“Yes, I did.”
“But you had feelings for her?””
“Look, I had feelings, but that is all in the past, I moved here to New York and I moved on after Colton and Morgan took too long to make me partner. Now I am a partner here. I met you and Rachel is a woman from my past.”
“Please stop Carl.”
“What’s wrong Kolby? “
“Look, it is obvious this was all in the past before us,” said Kolby.
Carl smiled at Kolby and then she hugged him.
“I want to try and work it out with you babe.”
“I do too Kolby.”
As Carl and Kolby hugged his thoughts were clearly somewhere else.
Why did I have to see you again Rachel?
I thought I was over you.
Back at her hotel. Rachel began packing up her suitcase.
She began to get teary-eyed. She flashbacked to when Carl broke it off.
They had been going out for about 6 months and all seemed to be getting more intense. Rachel never saw it coming.
“Rachel, I think what we've shared has been amazing.”
“Me, too.”
“But, I think us working together and being together is going to cause issues.”
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“I really want to make partner and I think us getting too serious right now is not good for either of us.”
As Rachel thought of his words that last night. Tears began streaming down her face.
“Please forgive me for this, I never meant to hurt you, and I also want us to be friends.”
“I can’t think of that right now Carl.”
“I am not saying it’s over, I just want us to take it slow.”
“Look, Carl, I need to go now.”
Rachel stormed out and the next day she had given a resignation letter. She had moved back to Atlanta and became a partner in one of their law firms.
Eventually, Carl and her communicated and began talking again. This was before he moved to New York and was offered his big break when Colton and Morgan stalled.
Rachel told him she had met someone and that there were no hard feelings. But Carl very much regretted hurting her. He never got to fully tell her of his true feelings after getting with Kolby.
As for Rachel she always thought of Carl. She could not forget him as much as she tried. He overheard about the break up through the media. Since she had some business in New York and with Carl’s firm. She began to think there might be a chance for her again.
Damn you Carl!
I need to go back to Atlanta and forget all about you!
Rachel had just finished packing up when she heard her cell phone ringing.
“This is Rachel Smith.”
“Listen tramp! I am only going to say this once, Carl is mine and you need to get out of town!”
Before Rachel could answer. She overheard a click.
Well, I guess that must have been Kolby.
Maybe I should try and stay for a bit longer.
I hope you have enjoyed this next part. Until next time!
