The Path Through College is Indirect

Take a step back and think back to when you were a senior in high school. When you finally figured out what college you were going to attend, who your roommate was going to be, and what major you were going to pursue. You had it all figured out... Or so you thought.

Life doesn't always go as planned and that's okay, no body is perfect and life isn't supposed to be. If your life was so cookie cutter it wouldn't be any fun. Sometimes the future you thought you had all set in stone alters a little bit.

Fast forward to when you're sitting in a your classroom freshman year of college listening to your professor lecture. You were SO excited to take a class called "The History of Women's Fashion" but, little did you know you would actually hate it and it does not interest you at all. You now feel like you have to rethink your whole life and pick a new field in what you are potentially going to study for the rest of your life. Some people know what career they will pursue when in elementary school and others just don't. THIS IS OKAY. Did you forget that you're only around the age of 18-21? You have your whole entire life ahead of you. Who cares if you don't graduate in 4 years, are you really in that much of a rush to work Monday-Friday, 9-5, for the rest of your life? Yea, didn't think so.

I understand this is stressful, but I rather be stressed out now than be working a 9-5 job that I absolutely dread going to every single day. Choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life.

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
