The Only Person You Should Live To Impress Is Yourself

As Bon Jovi once said, "It's my life; It's now or never; I ain't gonna live forever."

In today's society it's easy to get caught up trying to seek others’ approval of your life. It's not uncommon to find yourself comparing your life to other's on social media and always checking your number of likes. However, it’s your life and you need to focus on living it for you and not for anyone else.

For the longest time I was living my life trying to impress others. I would find myself seeking their approval on what I was doing; making sure that my life was riveting, charming and thrilling. But who gets to define what your life is? You do; not people on the outside. Just because your life doesn't match somebody else's does not mean that it isn't exciting and full.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned that I shouldn’t be living my life for anyone else but myself. Once I started living my life for myself, everything was much more enjoyable and everything seemed easier. I am no longer ashamed to love the things I love or afraid to express who I am.

The biggest thing I've learned is that not everything you do needs an explanation. I have no one to prove myself to or anyone to validate that I'm living my life right. If I want a tattoo, you can bet I'm getting one; even if it doesn’t have a deeply rooted meaning behind it. If I want to stay home, it’s okay to miss that party. I don’t need to post a fire Instagram picture of my outfit, when I'd rather post one of a sunset instead.

No matter your choices, live your life. Don’t ever forget you're living for yourself. You don't owe anyone anything. You don't owe a single explanation or a reason for your choices throughout your life. Not everything you do needs an explanation. Be spontaneous.

Your life is illustrated by you, so go ahead and start writing it yourself. This is your life, so go fill it up with unforgettable memories and moments.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
