The refugee crisis in Syria, along with its neighboring countries has become increasing debatable and the Paris attack that occurred has led to people opposing the acceptance of the refugees. People fear for their safety and there is nothing wrong with that, but knowing that your fellow human being is somewhere in Europe and has gone for days without enough food or sleep simply because of their religion should make you wonder if humanity is worth saving.
Despite the fact that many Americans believe that it would be a terrible idea to bring in refugees, I am personally for it. I believe that every life is worth saving and we should all chip in with the little assistance we can offer. Remember, that despite our indifferences, we all form one race; the human race and that should be the goal when it comes to saving humanity. And we should all contribute to protecting the human race and tolerating each other’s view when it comes to religion. I choose this topic because I grew up in three different continent and it’s so incredibly fascinating how much we can learn from other people through food, religion, culture, among others. All these little things helps makes us who we are. Spending money extravagantly while a refugee somewhere has nothing to eat should compel you to empathize with them. After all, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” (Martin Luther King).
We humans are capable of greatness. The human race is the race we should be concerned about. Not the white, black, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, among others. 100 years from now, when our great grandchildren take a history class, what would they learn? Will they learn that we were cowards that allowed other people to die or are we going to be the heroes they want us to be. Carl Sgan once said the earth is the only planet known so far to harbor life. On it is every corrupt politician, every superstar, every saint and sinner, every teacher of moral reasons, every couple in love, every mother and father, inventor and explorer, lives here. The earth is the only home we have ever known. People kill others just so that they can become momentarily leaders of a fraction of this earth. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish what we have. It is well within our power to destroy our civilizations and also within us to use our compassion, intelligence, wealth and technology to make an abundant and meaning life for every inhabitant in this planet
