“Des, why are you laughing? It isn’t even that funny.” Those are words Destinee has heard over and over again, for even in the most serious moments, her laughter could fill the room. Ever since she was little, she would laugh things off. I envy her for this. Although things do impact her and she is troubled by all the trials and tribulations that life has put her through, she is able to keep a smile tattooed across her face. I remember when we were little, we would argue or fight, and I would accidently hit her just a little too hard. She would start to cry, and I would feel terrible because that was one thing she just did not do. When tears did slip out of those bright blue eyes, one would know something is truly wrong. After a couple times witnessing the tragedy of her tears, I realized it was easy to make them go away. A silly face, a simple promise, proof that it didn’t really hurt and the smile would return. Joy would come not only back to her, but also to me because her smile is contagious. It is like a disease that cannot be cured, no matter how annoying it actually is.
The smiles that are held in the past are wonderful, but the future is what truly matters because it has not yet come. As an older sister, I want the best and brightest future for her. I want her to pursue all of her dreams and be able to settle for what she wants and what is best for her personality. She has a super power that needs to be shared with the world. If everyone had her power of happiness and laughter, then the world, as a whole, would be a better place. She has the power to recreate herself in others with a simple smile, and if she is able to use it and live with it, she will be able to do anything she wants. She is able to do great for herself and anyone in her life, which is more than anyone can actually strive to do.
Destinee Ice Mercado is one person. Destinee Ice Mercado is a normal person with bright blue eyes, curly brown hair and a freckled tan face. She is a beautiful young woman, who is still growing into an even prettier more responsible adult. She will do great things; then again, she will do not so great things, but if one thing is for sure she will bounce back. She may not realize the power she has, but she will be able to use it. When she does realize she has it, she will shine brighter than she ever has before. She will know she is a hero to all who are sad, to all who are angry, to all who have lost hope. She will save days, she will save lives and most importantly, she will be doing this all by continuing her life by being her happy, fruitful, whimsical self. That is all someone could ask from a hero. Although I am the older sister, she is the brightest part of my life, a guaranteed happy moment. She is one of my heroes and always will be.
I love you, seester.
