This article will probably sound irrelevant to some people, but some of you will understand. As of last week, the app Twitter decide it is going to shut down the comedy app, Vine. If you don’t know what vine is, it was a six-second video app. People used it to post rants, funny comedy skits, and even sing. The beauty of it was that each video was only six-seconds. I guess a lot of us have short attention span.
But Vine was awesome. From 10th grade to 12th grade, I religiously watched vine. It was something I did every night after a stressful day at school. After field hockey practice, clubs and tests, vine was a stress-reliever. I was constantly quoting vines and using them in conversations with my friends. It was a phenomenon. I can still remember sitting in the court yard at school during lunch with some of my friends. We were re-creating Zach Piona vines and sending them to him through SnapChat and he replied to one. We were so excited. I can also pretty much thank vine for my friendship with one of my best friends, Steph. We spent years quoting and sending each other funny vines that we loved, and we still do.
Everyone at some point liked Vine, even if they were just watching some through Twitter, there were so many iconic vines that got users attention fast. The Vine user “Fab Cheerleader,” put up a Vine called “Back at it again at Krispy Kreme. ( https://vine.co/v/hLmL2HHnzP2 ) The video automatically went viral. Other people really enjoyed the account "Marnie the Dog." ( https://vine.co/v/OZQ61X9KWwB ) The user put up videos of their dog with it's tongue constantly out, which people loved. A lot of users would start coping other vines and making them their own. Everyone loved the Vine of the little girl dancing as her mom shouted "DO IT FOR THE VINE." ( https://vine.co/v/MuzPTKxzpYB ) "DO IT FOR THE VINE" became a very popular idea for users.
Of course there were the super popular users of Vine: King Bach, Britney Furlan, Zach Piona, Cody Ko, Gabbie Hann, Lele Pons, Josh Peck, Batman Dad, Jason Nash, KC James, Josh Darnit, Ry Doon, Chris Delia, Nicholas Megalis and so many more. But for some people, Vine was just the beginning and their career sky rocketed from there. You may not like them, but a group of Viners went on to create a group called "Magcon" and sell out their tour as they went across the United States. Members of their group were Taylor Caniff, Cameron Dallas and Nash Grier. Personally, I don't get what talent they had to go on "tour," but that's another article. Part of this group was also Viner Shawn Mendes, who you might know now. He posted singing Vines and now has gone on to release two albums, tour with Taylor Swift, and has a net worth of 3 million. Vine also helped A LOT of YouTubers, The Gabbie Show, David Dobrik, Liza Koshy and more. They went on to have million of subscribers on their YouTube and even be in some small movie roles. They all have posted videos about how much Vine changed their life and gave them friends and memories they will cherish forever.
So why Twitter? Why do you need to delete Vine? Yes, it is not as active as it used to be, but people still use it. Whenever I need a laugh and have nothing to do I always go on Vine. Personally, I love the Vines that are created by random users that get promoted on the popular page. Vines did start to get too rehearsed and had too much thought put into them, but some people were still posting raw videos that were hysterical. People who work at Vine or get paid to post are now losing their jobs because the app is getting deleted, it just doesn't seem fair to me. Like I said, this article may sound foolish to some, but Vine was awesome and something I looked forward to watching everyday.
