For those of you who don’t know, the “Mandela Effect” is what happens when someone has a clear memory of something that never happened in reality. A large number of people remember the exact same events with the exact same details, but our memories are different from what the history books say. Here are 4 examples that prove the Mandela Effect may in fact be true:
1.) Nelson Mandela’s Death
Hence the name of this theory, Nelson Mandela died in 2013. The day he died, a large part of the population was confused because they remembered Mandela dying in prison in the 80’s. The internet took interest in this topic and named the theory the Mandela Effect. These false memories have some people thinking their memory has gone to a parallel universe, or if time travelers have gone to the past and slightly affected our present. Whichever it is, what’s most interesting about the Mandela effect is that so many individuals share the same false memories. It wasn't just a few people who remembered Mandela dying in prison, it was a huge part of the population.
2.) Berenstain Bears
The Berenstein Bears is a series of books that many people read as children, or family members read them aloud. Most people remember it being called the “Berenstein Bears,” however the books are actually called the “Berenstain Bears”
3.) Sex and the City
Sex and the City is a very popular TV show that is a prime example of the Mandela effect. Many people remember the show being called, “Sex in the City.” There are clips of the show being nominated at award shows and they refer to it as “Sex in the City.” There is also a popular video on YouTube of a man with a lot of perfumes and other products, that have “Sex in the City,” engraved into it.
4.) Famous Movie Lines
What’s the most famous line in the movie Forrest Gump? “Life is like a box of chocolates?” Wrong. The line in the movie is actually, “Life WAS like a box of chocolates.” What’s the most famous line in Jaws? “We’re gonna need a bigger boat?” Wrong. If you go and watch the movie now, the line is, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” What’s the most famous line in the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? “Mirror mirror on the wall?” Wrong again. The line is “Magic Mirror on the wall.” These may be small changes, but EVERYONE remembers these movie lines being said different ways.
Pretty freaky if you ask me. If you want to research more about the Mandela Effect there are many interesting videos on YouTube. You should also check out Shane Dawson’s videos on this effect.
