There is no excuse for anyone to speak the way Donald Trump did in the recent video that was leaked. If you have been living under a rock, you might have missed the disgusting, inappropriate, and disturbing video that Access Hollywood leaked of our unfortunate Republican Presidential nominee, Donald Trump. Now let me start off by saying I do not support Donald Trump. He does not have my vote in November and I certainly do not think he will ever “make America great again.” But I was not offended by this video because I am voting for Hillary, I was offended that ANYONE could ever talk about someone like that. Yes, I know people do, but it is unacceptable. I know at the time Donald Trump was not a politician, but he was a celebrity and they are held at higher platforms than the rest of us. I am not saying it is fair, but it is frowned upon for celebrities, let alone anyone speak like that.
What I don’t get, is that people are actually defending him. I don’t care if you support Trump, that’s your own decision, but there is no excuse for bragging about sexual assault. There is no beating around the bush. “When you’re a star they let you do it.” N-O. He spoke about the reporter like she was an object. “Look at those legs,” Trump said and then he proceeded to eat Tic Tacs “in case he starts kissing her.”
One of my favorite justifications of this gross video that was leaked is, “If American women are so outraged at Donald Trump’s naughty words, who in the hell bought 80 million copies of 50 Shades of Grey?” L-O-L WHAT? THOSE DO NOT CORRELATE. First of all, one is a work of fiction. In the story line of 50 Shades of Grey the woman was a "willing" participant. Trump gropes women "because he can" there is no equivalency here.
Another one I saw was a quote from Michelle Obama, “Trump’s sexual boasts have ‘shaken me to my core,’” and another quote from Michelle saying, “Beyoncé could not be a better role model for my girls.” As if these two quote contradict herself? They do not. There is NOTHING wrong with a woman embracing her sexuality. Just because she is “showing skin” or expressing herself, does not mean she wants people to talk about her and treat her like she is an object. Beyoncé is an amazing role model because she talks about social injustices and she shows the younger generation to follow their dreams.
Donald Trump pushing this video off as “locker room talk” and his supporters agreeing is why we have the rape culture we have today.
