As a die hard Taylor Swift fan, I will admit that I do miss the old Taylor. But, that doesn't mean that I want her back. Taylor's fan base has aged alongside with her, so it is no surprised that her music aged too. She has adapted to new trends and styles in music, as any good musician does. So why is everyone making a big deal about her?
Taylor is clearly sick of her "good girl" reputation. With her new song "End Game" and the music video to go along with it, she shows just how dead the old Taylor is.
The music video features a lot of drinking, so what? Taylor is 28 years old. She is plenty old enough to be drinking. Her fans aren't in middle school anymore either. A lot of her fan base includes college-aged girls, who obviously, are no stranger to drinking.
The music video shows what looks to be Taylor and everyone around her just having a good time and ignoring what their reputations might be. I think that is a very strong message to send to people these days and we should be applauding her, not tearing her down.
As far as the dancing goes, I love it. Taylor is all about putting on a performance, and what good performance doesn't include some sweet dance moves? Everyone underestimated Taylor and just thought of her as the innocent girl who sings about all of her break ups, but she is proving them wrong in so many ways with this new music.
Her song is all about her understanding what her reputation is and what people say about her, but still wanting to be somebody's "end game". By including Future and Ed Sheeran, she is reaching a wider audience, which is smart.
Both men in the music video talk about having reputations of their own, but ignoring them. Their reputations don't reflect who they are or control their lives. And that is exactly what Taylor is doing.
People can hate all they want, but Taylor Swift is clearly doing something right based on the amount of love she receives and the success of her career. Her messages have always been heard by me, and I hope other people get the chance to hear them too.
