The Numb Feeling

And it never hurts unless you give much thought to it.

The Numb Feeling

Do you ever experience something in your life, that seems to remind you that you are alive? Many of us can say that we sometimes go through periods of time feeling numb, confused, and lost, but then something or someone pulls you out of that, and isn’t it mind blowing how that works? How something or someone has that power to pull you back to the surface after feeling as if you were sinking to rock bottom?

The thing about numbness is, it never hurts unless you give much thought to it…like when you’re laying down on your bed, staring blankly up at your ceiling, thinking of where it went wrong for you, and then you realize just how broken you are. You think to yourself, this is what it feels like to be nothing, no one, and so you start to fall into yourself. This goes on for God knows how long until you find that something that inspires you so much, you feel yourself come back to life.

The point is, no matter how numb you may feel, you need to search for it; the thing that will help bring you back to the world because yes, you deserve to be here and yes, you may have been hurting, but you don’t have to remain in that state of brokenness. You owe it to yourself to at least try and attempt to get better, and I know it’s easier said than done, but try. You can’t allow yourself to remain in that numb, you can’t allow yourself to go through this alone, you can’t deprive yourself of the possibility of getting better.

In that moment, that you experience that something or meet that someone, that reminds you that you are alive; you suddenly feel connected to the world a little bit more, don’t you? You feel a little bit more worthy, a little bit more invincible, a little bit more unbreakable…and that’s how you should feel all the time, that’s how you deserve to feel all the time. The world needs people like you; the ones who have been broken, but pushed through and now walk with a smile on their face as if they never even lost themselves.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
