The Nine People You Will Meet In College

How the cast of the Jersey Shore is similar to kids in college.

The Nine People You Will Meet In College

If you're ever looking to meet people from all different backgrounds, who have a wide variety of interests and who will either make your life a good time or a disaster look no further than a college campus. Even though the MTV reality TV show "Jersey Shore" has long been off the air, it is extremely hard to forget the people who were on the show. Despite the fact that these people were adults it is hard to ignore the fact that they were eerily similar to the people you meet in college.

The Party Girl

The party girl, this girl either makes or breaks your freshman year. Maybe you're friends with her or maybe you just simply observe her from afar this girl knows how to have a good time. She moved into college with three handles of Rubinoff and a couple of nips in her backpack. You will frequently see her leaving on a Friday night and not returning until Sunday morning. If you are lucky enough to have her on snapchat they most likely look something like her with a red solo cup in her hand taking selfies with random people at the party followed by her with her friends at a fast food restaurant shoving her face with fries.

The Party Guy

Now it is important not to get the party guy confused with the party girl, they are very different. The party guy didn't necessarily come to college being a douche bag. Maybe it's his first time being able to make decisions for himself and he doesn't know how to handle all of this new found freedom. On move in day the party guy left his parents to unpack all of his stuff in his room while he walked the hallways of the dorms scouting out the girl situation. He is your friend at first until he finds a cooler crowd to hang out with. You can frequently see him coming back to his room with a different girl every weekend. He also can never seem to find a shirt.

The On Again Off Again Couple

These two people are very unique. They didn't know each other before coming to college but somehow they started dating what seemed like almost immediately. If you're his roommate you may often be asking yourself "I didn't know I had two roommates" because she basically lives in your room. These two are inseparable and their friends are usually frustrated that they can never hang out with one of them without the other. However despite being joined at the hip this isn't a perfect relationship. You will frequently see them outside the dorm on a Friday or Saturday night, clearly intoxicated, having an argument about how she claims he was checking out some girl at the party. They may break up from that fight but will get back together on Monday when they both sober up.

The Best Friend/ The Mom

This girl seems to be friends with everyone. She has a very likable personality and always has your back. You can count on her to hold your hair back after a rough night out and she'll be there with ice cream and cuddles when you and your boyfriend break up. All the guys try to get with her but she has a boy from home that she's with even though he treats her like trash she swears they're happy. You will frequently see her handing you more shots even though she knows she's going to have to be the one holding your hair at thee end of the night.

The Quiet Guy

The quiet guy is a very unique person. Like the best friend/ mom he is everyones friend. He's very family oriented and often calls his mom multiple times a day. He becomes really close with all of the girls but ends up getting friend zoned because he is respectable and didn't want to make a move too early. He's usually the one who smooths out the tension in the friend group because the drama makes him uncomfortable. You will often see him in a girls room sitting on her bed watching some chick flick.

The Wannabe

This girl wants nothing more than to be the party girl. She is most likely friends with the party girl, maybe even her best friend, but she will never be her. She tries to get with all of the same guys as the party girl but often fails because she is afraid to make the party girl mad. She is not a bad person, in fact she tries really hard in school and wants to succeed. You will frequently see her following desperately behind the party girl at parties.

The DJ

You know him. He has likely told you about his Spotify or Sound Cloud playlist. Whenever you have a little get together with friends or if you're in the car with him he is the first one to jump on the aux cord. For Christmas his parents bought him some DJ equipment and now your parties feel like a night club. He tries to woo girls by making them a playlist but usually doesn't succeed. You will frequently see him with the party guy trying to get into the big parties on campus to scout out DJ possibilities.

The Friend of a Friend

This girl has been hanging out with your group a lot recently because she's a friend of a friend in the group. At first everyone was fine with it, there was nothing too out of the ordinary with her. As time progressed there were little things about her that started to annoy you and the group. She is always the one starting drama for no reason. The friend of a friend has likely tried to get with all of the guys in the group even though she knows you like one of them. You can frequently see her all the time, because she's always around and you wonder if she has ever actually spent time in her own room.

Now I'm aware that there are many more personalities of people that you will meet in college but I think that the cast of the Jersey Shore really sums up the personalities of the party goers in college. Whether or not you are into the party life I am sure that you know someone in your life be it a friend or someone you observe from afar that you think matches one of the above descriptions. Just like the Jersey Shore, college won't last forever, but it's a time that you'll never forget.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
