1. It's got an intriguing plot that unfolds in an unexpected way. This book kept me riveted from start to finish, and never ceased to surprise me. Although the ending was a bit reminiscent of a certain Shakespearean story, it was extremely well executed, and kept me on my toes.
2. It's full of allusions to different literary works. If you are someone who enjoys finding tiny references to great works of literature, this book is perfect. Some of the characters even have names that allude to another Shakespearean play, but I won't spoil that too much for you. Finding these Easter eggs Morgenstern hides becomes a game of sorts.
3. Although romance is a focus in the book, it is never the whole focus. I understand the need to have a book without a romance, and, while this book includes a romantic subplot, the story wouldn't lose any of its value without it. Morgenstern does a great job of allowing for a romance, while keeping it away from center stage.
4. The book is a great example of an author's mastery of the English language, and is prime for analysis. The first time I read this book, it was required for my English class, and we spent our discussion hours delving into this genius work. In our small group, we each noticed different things that could be brought to the table for an intellectual discussion of the book, every single time (upwards of four times) we discussed.
5. It's an overall enjoyable book. With such an amazing plot and superb diction, no wonder I've reread it 5 times in the past year! It can easily be read within a week (or even the few hours after a standardized test), and will not disappoint.
I encourage everyone to read it, and take it in with all its magnificence!
